Clinic duties and responsibilities
• Conducted numerous military Closed Point of Distribution events for immu-
nizations.
• Created and established a birth month recall system to better manage the
medical programs and needs of military personnel.
• Worked in the Aviation Medicine Physical Exams Department conducting
various types of physicals and scheduling of military personnel.
• Conducted three and twelve lead electrocardiograms (ECG’s), assisted with
standbys during examinations for the physician.
• Completed Distant and Near Visual Acuity Testing, conducted anthropo-
metric body measurements for flight candidate physicals, color perception
testing to include Farnsworth Lantern Test and Pseudo Ichihara Chromatic
Plates, depth perception tests and glaucoma testing using the Non-Contact
Tonometer.
• Served as the Senior Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and responded to
several aircraft mishaps to provide medical care and assist the flight surgeon with
their mishap investigation.
• Provided technical expertise regarding field emergency medicine for the duty
section. In case of conflict with the ambulance crew and the COD, was able to
provide the current skill set and how it is to be applied to a variety of emergency
medical situations in accordance with appropriate rules and regulations.
• Was able to handle emergencies ranging from aircraft mishaps, diabetic emergencies,
motor vehicle accidents, sexual assaults, trauma, and other medical emergencies with-
out failure or loss of personnel.
• Qualified as Chief of the Day (COD) and was responsible for handling emergency
medical message traffic and conducting Brig Confinement Physicals in the absence
of the physician Command Duty Officer in 2001.
• Qualified as a Mate of the Day which is the third highest leadership position on
the duty section and they are responsible for the smooth operation of the EMT’s
and the ambulance responses while the COD is able to focus on the overall manage-
ment of the duty section in 1999.
Shipboard medical department and responsibilities
• Managed the Emergency Room while supervising three personnel.
• Provided both emergent and non-emergent medical care to approximately 5,000
Sailors and Marines.
• Sickcall Screener qualified; was trained in the basics of seeing and treating various
medical conditions ranging from gastroenteritis, upper respiratory infections,
sexually transmitted diseases, muscle-skeletal complaints and etc.
• Cross trained to conduct basic lab tests and x-rays. Provided minor surgical
care for superficial lacerations and ingrown toenail removals under the
supervision of a physician preceptor.
• Provided post-mortem care to several personnel who passed away while deployed
in 2000-2003.

• Implemented a streamlined process to complete an average of 35 physicals
within a period of four hours. Utilized telemedicine to reduce the amount
student downtime to examine Midshipmen via internet link.
