Creating Clarity with Words, Visuals, and Interactive Multimedia Over 30 Years
Educational Counsellor, SAIT: 1983-1996
As an Educational Counsellor on an adult student campus, my role encompassed the design and development of a comprehensive learning experience delivered throughout the academic year. Along with creating an ongoing support curriculum, my responsibilities included the design, development and delivery of educational workshops for post-secondary students in a variety of soft-skills areas:
• Communication Skills, Interpersonal Skills, Leadership Skills, Conflict Resolution, Peer Counselling, Effective Meetings, Student Government Support and Development; as well as Event Planning and Strategic and Tactical Planning.
• Greenfield development of a comprehensive beyond-the-classroom academic support program.
• Ongoing evaluations through comprehensive surveying and direct dialogues.
• Designed and delivered educational support and skill training seminars for staff and community.
• Provided planning and organizational development support for programming objectives.
• Administrative and operational support for facility functions and initiatives.
• Provided conflict resolution and crisis intervention support and training workshops.
• Defined vision and direction for staff and volunteer teams.
• Developed an advanced hiring and onboarding program incorporating educational initiatives in support of community development objectives.
• Achieved recognition as the most advanced residence life program in the province of Alberta.
• Initiated first-ever cooperative event between Calgary’s post-secondary institutions.
Independent Professional - August 1996 - Current
I created visual design solutions, wrote copy and code, and developed multimedia content for large enterprise and small business clients as a contractor/consultant for over 20 years.
• Provided strategic, tactical, technical, operational, and production support for identifying issues and achieving objectives (within the domains of relevant-to-client technologies, technical architectures, communication, branding, and general operations).
• Developed branding strategies to support advertising and marketing goals.
• Designed production processes for a variety of teams within a diversity of cultures.
• Designed and coded several user interfaces and user experiences for client websites.
• Provided full-stack (app) development support for small business clients (DB design and server-side coding along with front-end / client-side coding for web application systems).
• Provided generalist programming and/or design production services for enterprise clients.
• Managed several projects in which a particularly memorable success came when Husky paid its contract in full halfway through the project while I succeeded in restoring what had become a strained relationship with their client.
• Leveraged a diverse background to design and develop engaging and highly successful training programs which increased revenue and reduced costs for clients who are household names.
Creative Director, Globel eSeminars: 1992-2002
My role encompassed the greenfield development of a communications strategy and operational process for a start-up company in the (then) new e-learning industry. I participated in the strategy and development of a technical architecture functioning as a learning content management system (before they became commoditized systems). I interacted with a variety of subject matter experts to ensure the integrity of their content while translating it into an interactive multimedia adaptation.
• Designed and developed a 10,000+ page portal site for business training.
• Created a visual identity to support branding strategies.
• Developed and managed the seminar production process for new staff.
• Produced web and print materials to support course content and business development.
• Designed and coded an email marketing application.
• Provided technical support for project development, sales staff, and customers.
• Increased business value by 30% within the first year.
