Objective: Transformational leadership in a growing organization.
Summary:
Seasoned and focused problem solver desires to enable an
organization to improve its profitability. I bring order to
chaos and motivation to stagnation. Resolving process flow
inhibitors is my specialty, whether they are technical,
business, or personnel. I use time tested disciplines to
identify, characterize, quantify, and eliminate or reduce
impediments to progress. My secondary expertise is managing
equipment acquisitions and process qualifications.
Demonstrated Abilities:
. Application of DOE, scientific principles, and design and
measurement tools to solve complex manufacturing and design
problems.
. Implementation of Lean Manufacturing disciplines to remove waste
from manufacturing processes.
. Lean Six Sigma Green Belt trained in DMAIC tools to reduce defects,
improve throughput, and reduce variation.
. Development of appropriate measurement and administrative controls
to sustain an operation.
. Personal, hands-on leadership approach that engages the work force
and creates a high performing, self-sustaining, and motivated team.
. Management of operations and projects.
Core Competencies:
. Manufacturing Engineering - machining, fabrication,
microelectronics, assembly
. Project Planning and Management - equipment, facilities, military,
automotive
. Information Analysis and Structured Problem Solving
. Operations Management - machining, fabrication, military
. Workforce training and development
Skills: Journeyman Metal Model Maker, pneumatic systems, relay logic,
hazardous area equipment design, CAD/CAM, Mil Spec, MS Office, QFD, DOE,

Selected Achievements:
o Integrated transfer molding processes and 3D wafer processes into
manufacturing at IBM Microelectronics. Developed and qualified new metal
PVD processes in support of the project.
o Developed, qualified and implemented a new wafer processing technique
using basic thermodynamic principles that resulted in a 40% throughput
improvement in a plasma tool set, cut throughput variation in half, and
removed a bottleneck from the business.
o Developed an advanced process control for early detection of leaks in a
high vacuum process. The new technique made predictive maintenance
assessments before leaks created product scrap and was later deployed in
an entire wafer fab across a common tool platform.
o Delivered a breakthrough solution for the consolidation of two
manufacturing lines by using a disciplined analytical approach in a team
environment. Increased sector throughput 50% with no capital investment
by optimizing the workflow through the equipment set.
o Trained IBM maintenance personnel in the preventative maintenance and
repair of newly acquired process equipment. Published preventative
maintenance schedules and procedures.
o Trained IBM manufacturing personnel in the setup and use of newly
acquired manufacturing equipment and newly developed manufacturing
processes. Published process specifications, work instructions, control
plans, and troubleshooting guides.
o Mentored junior engineers during their assimilation into the IBM
business unit.
o Led Kaizen events and implemented 5S to optimize workflow in IBM
Microelectronics manufacturing.
o Delivered over $1M worth of capital equipment solutions to IBM
Microelectronics, ensuring a competitive advantage for supplying quality
ceramic modules to its customer base. Used PMBOK disciplines to develop
life cycle project plans:
. Project charter, sponsorship, team definitions
. Defined customer specifications, work scope and communication plans
. Developed the business case, risk and contingency plans
. Procured capital and expense funding in the corporate finance
system
. Managed equipment design checkpoints, deliverables, and financial
issues
. Scheduled installation and coordination of facilities upgrades
. Performed debug and qualification of new equipment and upgrades
. Performed project closeout in the corporate finance system
o Developed the project work plan for the company's effort on a four month
Battalion project to repair the border patrol road for the Department of
Justice in Douglas, Arizona. Project plan was manually resource leveled
using Critical Path Method planning.
o Volunteer project manager for facility improvements and kitchen upgrade
at local church.
o Led the maintenance section to win Battalion Motor Pool of the Quarter
Award three consecutive times, exceeding a 95% operational readiness
rate each time with the U.S. Army.
o Used Hoshin Kanri to develop a Mission Essential Task List for combat
training in the U.S. Army.
