Accomplishments
Process Improvement
• Maintained, troubleshoot and upgraded numerous versions of CICS and MQ over the years.
• Worked with CICS/Mainframe operators to ensure as close to 100% availability of production
CICS and MQ services as possible.
• Assisted application programmers with their COBOL debugging requirement using CA/Intertest.
• Streamlined the environment to be able to support over 100 CICS regions with only 3 resources.
• Wrote and edited documents to keep staff informed on policies and procedures.
• Assisted in creating SOP for junior and non-mainframe resources so they can support mainframe
software.
Protective Services
• Participated in Disaster Recovery drills with the MVS folks to ensure that our CICS and MQ
environment comes up without manual intervention.
• Used ITIL framework for our support model, where possible
• Adhere to SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley) standards on financial t ransactions as required by the
I nformation Security group
• Upgraded servers and software version using SDLC protocol, all while maintaining production
data integrity
Experience
Goldman Sachs, Jersey City, NJ
Vice President, Technology Operations December 1986 – June 2014
• Provided 24x7 technical support of approximately about 100 CICS regions and 15 mainframe MQ
queue managers running on IBM z/OS and related software products, such as TMON for CICS,
MQ Explorer, Omegamon/CICS, MERVA, Intertest, CAFC, DADSPLUS, and BMS/TS.
• Built a support organization using off-shore and on-shore personnel to manage and monitor
distributed MQ on Linux platform, CICS on Mainframe, VM containers under hypervisor (ESX),
Tibco EMS, Tibco RV, SWIFT and other in-house developed utilities.
• Managed batch jobs/streams, restarts, completion reports using job scheduler like IBM Tivoli
Workload Scheduler (TWS)
• Worked with the MVS group to make sure our CICS and MQ environment under Z/OS gets
upgraded as necessary using SMP/E software
• Provided UAT environment to flush out any bugs in the software
• Ran sample test scenarios to ensure the smooth transition in to production
• Installed Secure FTP solution provided as part of the WebSphere MQ FT, reducing lost time
during restart of large file transfer jobs
• Installed, customized MQ Explorer and provided training to the Operations
• Automated the process of error-detecting and alerting potential problems such as excessive CPU
usage or I/O counts, MQ connections, queue depth, etc. using TMON and in-house developed
utilities. This led to increase in performance of the software
• Liaise with Information Security group to ensure that we have proper disaster recovery capability
• Provided Incident/Change/Problem management reports to Managing Director. Also I had to
prepare special reports for Severity 1 issues and explain them in person
• Worked with Service Delivery Manager from the outsourcing firm to make sure the expected SLO
is understood and SLAs are met or exceeded.
• Provided and maintained OFAC list for our Treasury Ops to ensure that we are compliant
K-Mart, North Bergen, NJ
CICS Systems Programmer June 1983 – December 1986
