PROJECT 1
Title : DIGITAL RESPIRATION RATE METER USING A DISPLACEMENT
TRANSDUCER
Description
Measurement of physiological parameters like heart rate and respiration rate is crucial in the field
of medicine. We have done simple method for respiration rate measurement using a displacement
transducer. Its responds fast and is cost effective. By using this, respiration rate can be measured in
the range of 0 to 999 respirations/ minute.Digital Respiration Rate Meter uses a displacement
transducer for sensing the respiration rate using IR transmitter and receiver. Inhaling and
exhaling the air during respiration causes a light ball to move up and down in a capillary glass
tube(Physical setup). This movement is sensed with the help of an IR transmitter-receiver assembly
of the sensing circuit and converted into pulses through the pulse generator. These pulses are
counted for a minute using a counter. The respiration rate is displayed on a 3-digit display through
the seven segment decoder/driver.
PROJECT 2
Title : CLASSIFICATION OF BRAIN TUMOR IN MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGES
Description
Brain cancer is one of the most common and deadly diseases in the world. The early and accurate
diagnosis of brain tumor can be carried out by using the technique of MAGNETIC RESONANCE
IMAGING(MRI).This project flows through 3 stages: Image segmentation, Feature Extraction,
Classification .In the abnormal MR images these processes are carried out to detect the tumor kind
i.e. Benign/Malignant. The segmentation of tumor region from the abnormal MR image is done
using the Region Growing method. Feature extraction is the process to represent raw images in its
reduced form to facilitate classification. It involves GRAY LEVEL CO-OCCURANCE MATRIX.
The features extracted are Texture, Shape, and Intensity based features. The extracted features are
fed to a classifier to distinguish benign and malignant tumor. The classifier employed is the
SUPPORT VECTOR MACHINE(SVM).
