Dan A. Busby
Milton Freewater, OR 97862
To
Since graduating from Walla Walla Community College School of Nursing in 1987 I have been continuously working
in my career as a registered nurse, and learning many new things through continuing education, both on my own
and what is required of me in my place of employment.
I have held nursing licenses in several states including Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Hawaii during the past
twenty seven years, and served in the United States Army Reserves (medical unit) for over ten years throughout
this time, including deployment to Germany during the Gulf War.
During my long career I worked in hospitals, ER clinic, extended care facilities, and also on home care cases, giving
me a wide variety of nursing experiences and knowledge. I plan to continue in my chosen field into retirement,
hopefully working on after age 65 at least part time.
To me, nursing is a developmental job. Learning new treatments, medicines, equipment and other patient care is
always a challenge, but it has become simple for me since I have developed a system wherein I use safe practice
always, and attend to the needs of staff and clients as equally as humanly possible. I'm known in my work place to
be punctual, honest, thorough, helpful, and caring.
On my days off I spend time with my family enjoying camping, gardening, gaming and movies. But my favorite
hobby is music. I have played trumpet with the Walla Walla Symphony, and also the Symphony in Idaho. At present
I participate in the Walla Walla Valley Band. I also am church pianist, and enjoy composing and arranging music on
my own.
I would welcome the opportunity to meet and discuss employment with you.
Sincerely,
Dan Busby
Beginning back in 1975 I took interest in the medical world. I began working as an orderly at a local nursing home,
then “graduated” to a hospital. Nursing school came much later, and I worked my way through the Associate
Degree Nursing Program as a CNA the first two years, and as an LPN the final year. I was involved in many clinical
situations including pediatrics, ER, and chemo as well as surgical, geriatrics and the psych unit.
Upon graduating with my RN degree I chose to specialize in working mostly with the elderly for the first few years of
my career. Therefore I worked in Nursing Homes mostly, and I also had some home care jobs as well.
Home care was the main part of my career in later years for some time in the Seattle/Tacoma, Washington area.
There I worked with both young children and the elderly. Some of the treatments I did with them were for breathing,
so I learned to use ventilators, and the medicines that went with them. Since I worked with different agencies, I
learned new charting systems, and to work by myself without a supervisor or DNS to go to with problems. The
outcome was good. I felt it was a very fulfilling experience. I like learning new things everywhere I go; and I get
along well with others no matter their age, gender, color or creed.
These past few years at Regency at the Park have been interesting, busy and full. I'm hoping to slow down a bit
now, so am looking for a home care position again.
