Mission
Statement I have always had a passion to work with children
who need a voice and challenge and surprise me on a
daily basis. Fortunately, I have been able to do so
for the last 13 years. Growing up, my mother was an
Exceptional Education teacher who taught children
in their homes, and oftentimes I would accompany
her and witness her creative, individualized
teaching methods. After college, I knew that I too
wanted to work with children who required me to go
that extra mile...or 10! I have served as a teacher
and behavior specialist to students and patients of
all ages and exceptionalities, in a variety of
settings. I am committed to know each of them as
individuals-their lives outside of school, their
interests, goals, achievements. Really knowing them
as human beings, not just as students is vital to
relationship building. When you genuinely know your
students, you can offer praise for accomplishments,
ask for opinions, offer guidance when goal-setting.
I want my students to know they are valued as
individuals. I could not effectively do that if I
did not cultivate meaningful relationships with
each of them. I show them I care with affection,
smiles, humor. It is not "me" and "them", it is
"us." We are together, my students and I, teaching
and learning from one another. I look forward to
the opportunity to apply my experience, as well as
what I have learned from my colleagues, and most
importantly my students and patients, to all other
equally challenging and surprising young people.
