Currently serving as the liaison between the AmeriHealth Caritas Family of
Companies, Keystone First policyholders, and their primary care providers
to help facilitate AmeriHealth benefits and services and assist members in
understand the Affordable Care Act.
AmeriHealth Caritas Pennsylvania, a member of AmeriHealth Caritas, is a
Medical Assistance (Medicaid) managed care health plan serving more than
114,000 Medical Assistance recipients across two regions of Pennsylvania.
Headquartered in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, AmeriHealth Caritas offers all
of the benefits and services of regular Medical Assistance, plus special
programs and benefits that are only available to AmeriHealth Caritas
members. My duties included but were not limited to helping people get
care, stay well and build healthy communities, with a special concern for
the poor. The company's corporate parent partners are two of the nation's
largest Blue health insurers, Independence Blue Cross (IBC) and Blue Cross
Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM).
September 2012 - September 2013 AmeriHealth Caritas Partnership

Coordinator
Worked with the nonprofit 501(c)(3) public charitable organization to help
facilitate various programs and initiatives to promote and advance health
equity and address health disparities in Philadelphia.
Also organized for and collaborated with Drexel University and the
University of Pennsylvania to conduct a study that evaluated the
effectiveness of faith-based community health improvement programs. The
mission of the partnership was to promote and advance health equity for all
by conducting health promotion and prevention programs that address the
prevalence of diseases in vulnerable and underserved populations.
Coordinated Programs:
. Healthy Hoops
Healthy Hoops is an innovative asthma management program that uses
basketball as a platform to teach children with asthma and their
families how to manage asthma through proper nutrition, exercise and
appropriate medication use.
. Health Ministry
The Health Ministry Program is a faith-based health education program
designed to educate participants on important health topics, including
breast cancer, diabetes, obesity, stroke and hypertension, medical
adherence, heart disease awareness and prevention, stress, depression,
and emotional and mental well-being.
. Safe Playground Build
Safe playground program, "The Power to Change a Child's World," helps
promote healthy lifestyles for kids by decreasing childhood obesity
and preventing injuries that result from obsolete and dangerous
equipment. Studies show that education, development and providing
adult supervised activities reduce the amount of play injuries while
increasing motivation and physical fitness
September 2012 - May 2013 Regional Health Equity Council (RHEC)

Coordinator
Represented the Mid-Atlantic region of the RHEC, and helped coordinate and
participate in summits of all the regions in Washington D.C. Worked with
key members from both public and private sectors, including academia,
health systems, health insurers, state legislators, faith-based and
community organizations, foundations, and state government organizations to
strategize and implement effective methods to advance the agenda of
eliminating health disparities and improving health equity from the
grassroots.
My duties as assigned for the RHEC were to:
. Identify key regional health inequity issues and drivers, and advance
a responsive agenda.
. Use the collective power of organizations represented on the RHECs to
derive models for and promote cross-sector collaboration.
. Initiate new and support existing regional policies and action to
eliminate health disparities.
. Leverage opportunities available through organizations and sectors
represented on the council to address health disparities.
. Convene regional stakeholders and partners to address regional health
disparities issues.

Political Intern
Involved in local and state level Georgia elections and helped coordinate
numerous political fund raisers, events, party promotions and political
campaigns for Democratic Party chair Mike Berlon. Responsibilities
associated with this internship included information gathering at the
capitol, media surveillance, various writing projects (press releases,
emails, blog posts), video editing, graphic design, event planning,
researching, voter outreach, list/registration management, and various
special projects as needed by the Party and DPG staff.
