Employee Benefits Manager
• Manage the Benefits Department at a medical education and research institution
employing approximately five thousand. Duties require ensuring compliance with
applicable institution, state and federal policies and regulations (including H IPAA,
ERIS, etc.) while maintaining high levels of professionalism and confidentiality.
• Manage and develop all operational facets of the Benefits program at LSU Health
Sciences Center in New Orleans (LSUHSC-NO), including:
o Supervising subordinates in the orientation of new appointments and t ransfers.
o Designing and developing booklets and pamphlets appropriate for each category
of employee.
o Coordinating the Benefits Orientation Program for LSUHSC Medical and Dental
School Residents located in various affiliated hospitals throughout the state.
o Conducting quality reviews of Benefit Department staff employees to ensure and
evaluate quality of work produced, dependability and effectiveness.
o Setting priorities and establishing work standards to accomplish Benefit
Department objectives.
o Screening, interviewing, hi r ing and t raining new employees in the Benefits
Department and Records Management Sections.
• Manage subordinate administration of various insurance programs, including:
o Training subordinates to communicate appropriately on the provisions of
i nsurance offerings.
o Ensuring employees are appropriately applying procedures for payroll and
benefit portal data input.
• Conduct benefits information meetings to educate and explain available insurance and
retirement options to various categories of employees.
• Design, develop and organize materials used for presentations, orientation of new
employees, and education regarding benefit plans.
• Supervise organization of annual enrollment meetings and benefits fairs.
• Counsel employees regarding various retirement options available.
• Supervise subordinates in the accurate and timely processing of insurance and
retirement forms.
• Audit insurance invoices to ensure accuracy with elected coverage levels and to ensure
accurate payments are remit ted.
• Serve on the LSU System Fringe Benefits Commit tee, which reviews and selects
benefits to offer to faculty and staff employees.
• Review and provide input on all proposed legislation affecting Benefits and Records
M anagement administration.
• Review legislative changes regarding insurance, retirement and Records Management
and ensure compliance with applicable laws and legislative mandates.
• Ensure benefits are continuous for retirees and employees on leave without pay by
overseeing the communications and billing.
• Provide oversight of the Benefits Document Imaging Process.
• Ensure maintenance of employment files, I-9 documents, retiree files, and microfiche of
legacy payroll and personnel files.

Benefits Coordinator
• Conduct new hire orientation program on corporate benefits program for six New
O rleans regional hospitals and approximately two thousand employees.
• Create and maintain benefit files on all eligible employees.
• Process benefit enrollment forms for new hires, qualifying event changes and annual
enrollment elections.
• Calculate and route associated payroll adjustments to the Accounting Department.
• Issue COBRA notices for medical, dental and vision plans, including life insurance
continuation of coverage for terminating employees
• Administer the FM LA program, including:
o Verification of eligibility.
o Issuance of Department of Labor mandated application forms.
o Monitoring of t ime utilized and handling of billing/collection procedures for
employees on leave without pay.
• Resolve benefit eligibility/claims issues with appropriate Client Managers.
