To Whom I t May Concern:
I am a recent graduate of North Carolina Central University (NCCU) interested in
i nterviewing for a job as Quality Control Sample Group. I believe that your company has
t he ideal environ and culture in which to pursue my goal of becoming an innovative and
motivated technician that can contribute to the successes of the company
Academically, my extensive biology coursework in the biology department at North Carolina
Central University has allowed me to gain an understanding and appreciation for research
i n biology or pharmaceutical field. I have also taken multiple classes in the BRITE program
a t North Carolina Central University which has enable me to understand and improve my
research skills as well as my analytical abilities. I am currently involved in working on a
h igh thorough screening project to identify the inhibitor of acidic pH-dependent
activation of GPR4, a novel acid sensing G-protein couple receptor under Dr. Gordon
I beanu Pharmaceutical science Department (BRITE), NCCU . In this project, I develop
many of the laboratory skills required for this position. These include GPR4 screening
assay, maintenance of cell line (CHO cells) and adherent cell lines, in vit ro studies
using CHO & DUCK embryo cells. Freezing and thawing of cells, sterile practice,
making and changing of media, platting and split ting of cells, cell lysis etc. Care and
use of cell culture equipment. Preparing laminar Flow hood? CO2 incubator,
autoclaving. Maintenance of mouse. I have experience with molecular biology, cell
culture, protein expression/purification, cultivation, monitoring, thawing and expanding
mammalian cell cells culture using standard aseptic techniques and cell biology/metabolism.
I have also had the opportunity participate on a research project under the watchful eye of
D r. Silver Key. D r. Key. She also served as my Human Genetics and Int roduction to
Research professor. Taking Int ro to Research in spring 2011 has enable me to learn a great
deal about research, I have learned a lot about certain laboratory techniques required in the
l ab. I worked with Snow, a fellow student whom has been doing research under Dr. Key for
t wo or more years. W hile taking Int roduction to Research, I was able to acquire a few
techniques which I feel will enable me to further succeed in the laboratory. These
techniques include, d rosophila Melanogaster to produce m utation, running growth curves,
p urification and isolation of DNA, RNA and protein of intermediates and finals products
using chromatography or other purification methods such as HPLC. I have also acquired
how to performed sample analysis and characterization using NMR, UV spectrophotometry,
H PLC and mass spectrometry.
T his rewarding experience working in the lab gave me the opportunity to work closely with
a team of researchers and helped me to understand and develop the tools need to be an
effective scientist. I was also able to take another lab preparatory course, Biology and
Chemistry Techniques. The course work for this class entails the culturing of mammalian
cells, DNA, RNA, Protein and plasmid isolation, and DNA, RNA electrophoresis. Been able
to spend t ime and work in the lab specifically as a student researcher has fur ther
s trengthened my interests in laboratory research. I am also reliable and organized, and
enthusiastic to learn. I am sure that I will carry over the same enthusiasm and skill in
doing research at your institution.
Thanks you for your consideration of my credentials. I will contact your office in the next
ten days to see if you require any additional information regarding my qualification.
Sincerely,
Sahr A. James
