PROJECT: Cost Effective Logistics with Optimal Inventory (Oct 2011 - Dec 2011)

This project was an attempt to study the COST SAVING IN LOGISTICS, ABB LIMITED. The project was

divided into two sections. First, the analysis of Current cost saving position of the company and second was

the study of cost saving techniques.

A study of Cost Saving in LOGISTICS at ABB LTD. Due accurate and detailed planning we would like to

shift the procurement of FG from Italy from Air mode to Sea mode fright, this will give us the advantage to

improve the OTD having stock of FGs and reducing the transport cost without significant increase of the

inventories

Ratio analysis has been done on the basis of five years data. Ratios have been discussed to compare inventory

management performance over the years and to comment and not the absolute values. Therefore figures have

been converted into 12 months in this report. To analyze the performance, published balance sheets of ABB

LIMITED have been used. This project report is based on financial data up to 2010-11 only.

Inventory a double edged sword is usually an asset of an organization, if not used properly it will become

liability. It is therefore absolutely very important to manage inventories efficiently and effectively in order to

overcome unnecessary investment. And To identify the problems/challenges involved in the Cost Saving in

LOGISTICS, at ABB ltd.

Objective: - Compare both the cost i.e. cost by air and cost by sea, and find a suitable way to import

material without affecting the On Time Delivery, Customer satisfaction & to add onto company bottom

Airport management solution was one of the flagship projects for SITA that works mainly in TTL domain

(travel and transport logistics). AMS was a combination of products designed to optimize operations, reduce

congestion and improve the airport experience for all.

This project was a live project which is installed at approximately 125 airports and more than 40 international

airports in different countries. In India Mumbai was using this but they are now slowly phasing it out.

It has broadly two components APV (Airport Vision and AODB)

APV is responsible for the display and other information systems at the airport.

AODB works as a background application which keeps track of each and every service, Flight data, various

resources etc. and manages and schedules them for each and every movement of an airline.

AODB has logics for billing and it calculates the bills for each and every service that airport provides to and

an airline.
