Setcom is a small company which provides highly specialized software based solutions for
testing mobile devices from the application layer down through the physical layer.
First point of contact for major accounts in North America and the face of Setcom to our
customers, my primary job is to manage expectations through constant collaboration,
communication, and customer visits. I also serve as the voice of the customer within Setcom on
a cross functional team between engineering, sales, management, and customer support.
Lastly, step in as needed to find and resolve technical issues. I am technically adept enough to
handle problems from Layer 7 all the way down to Layer 1 of the OSI model. This often
requires remote debugging, as well as travel to the customer for deep investigation on-site.
Significant Accomplishments:
• North America consistently leads the company in customer satisfaction, as measured by
driving depth within existing customers; Closing initial sales and then earning more business
over time after establishing a close working relationship and demonstrating our capabilities.
• Personally oversaw the first customer deployments of our last two platforms.
• Highest support & maintenance contract revenue by region, 2009 through 2014.

In the late 1990’s, Motorola was quick to identify the trend towards outsourced design and
manufacturing. Our first ODM product was launched in 2000 and was a huge success. From
there we grew quickly. This was a fast moving organization in a high pressure environment. By
2006, more than 60% of the handset unit volume of the entire company was done by partners.
My role was to manage a small team of product support engineers responsible for ensuring that
the end products met our quality standards, performance benchmarks, and regulatory
requirements. We did this by building strong working relationships with the individual people at
our partners, and making sure that our end goals were mutually and contractually aligned.
Significant Accomplishments:
• Well versed in the testing and optimization of radio performance in the field, I guided a cross
functional team which reduced dropped calls by 40% on the V170 phone.
• Was a 2005 recipient of Motorola’s ‘President’s Award for Quality Excellence’ for the
extremely low field failure rate of the C115 product, which was caused by successful product
planning and by the way we incentivized our ODM partner.
• Co-Inventor of a floating ground plane (shield) to block absorption of cell phone radiation by
the user’s head. This is the first known use of this idea specifically implemented for
radiation reduction on a cellular telephone, our T2688 product.

budget and books, and acted as the comptroller for five years. This group promotes training and
development of youth soccer skills to rural children without access to a park district system.

Product Engineer Motorola Asia Pacific Cellular

This was a time of significant change in the world as Motorola and many other companies
moved their manufacturing operations from highly skilled workers in Germany and America, to
highly unskilled workers in China and Singapore. The Asia Pacific Cellular group had two
mandates. (1) To manufacture high quality and low cost Motorola branded cellular telephones
for sale around the world. (2) To develop and build new products customized to the Asian
market, which appeal to the typical Asian buyer, and sell well within the Asia Pacific region.
I was a Jack-of-all-trades engineer with extensive experience in product testing and system level
analysis. Extensive travel throughout Asia was required during this period.
Important job roles and duties during this time:
• Setup and validate new factory assembly lines in both the USA and China. This entailed
building up the benches from scratch, installing them on the line, and then monitoring their
behavior over the first several weeks after a product ramp up to confirm proper functioning.
• Broad based experience in nearly all aspects of product testing: Physical layer testing of the
RF transceiver. Radiated antenna testing, including TRP, TIS, antenna pattern testing, EMC,
Specific Absorption Rate, and antenna/finger interaction. Layer 2/3 protocol testing. Battery
charge/discharge curves, precise current drain measurement, and optimization of battery life.
Accelerated life testing and product torture testing. Audio measurements, both conducted
and over the air, including MOS testing.
• Perform testing and complete documentation in order to drive product acceptance with the
government regulatory bodies in the following countries: Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong,
Korea, Taiwan, China, Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand. Also occasionally needed to
step in as a technical expert and careful negotiator when working with the above government
regulatory agencies if problems were found during acceptance of a new product.

high volume production line of cordless telephones and digital answering machines.
