Histology Laboratory Supervision: Supervise and train employees on the
histology laboratory policies and procedures' manuals under the guidelines
of the College of American Pathology(CAP). Also, orientates staff to the
laboratory safety manuals under the guidelines of Occupational Safety
Health Administration (OSHA). Oversee and supervise the operations of the
histology lab, cytology lab, gross room, frozen section and autopsy/morgue
areas in routine processing and staining, special stains,
immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry and enzyme histochemistry. Other
areas of experience: conduct in service training to staff, order laboratory
supplies, maintenance and development of laboratory policies and procedure
manuals, preparation of capital and operating budget with adherence to
monthly cost containment policies. Was responsible for monthly workload
statistics, participation in QA, quality assurance program. Other
responsibilities included also, hiring, training and performance appraisal
of employee and competency testing.
Histology Laboratory Policies and Procedures: Proficient in writing and
updating the annual histology manual under the guidelines of the College of
American Pathology
(CAP), Joint Commission for Accreditation of Hospitals(JCAH) and safety
manual under the guidelines of Occupational Safety and Health
Administrtion(OSHA).
Histology Laboratory Computer Order & Billing Entry: Conducts daily
order/billing entries, worklists, accessioning and enter patient's
demographic information into the computer. Knowledgeable in billing and
entering histology laboratory International Classification of Diseases(ICD)
codes in the computer. Knowledgeable in numerous Pathology, Laboratory
Computer System.
Histology Laboratory Procedures: Proficient in performance of routine
tissue processing, microtomy of paraffin and fresh frozen sections,
hematoxylin & eosin stains, special stains, immunoperoxidase,
immunocytochemistry, enzyme histochemistry, embedding of blocks,
coverslipping, labeling, filing of slides/blocks and daily/weekly/
monthly general laboratory equipment maintenance including the work/bench
station. Upon special request assists the Pathologist in performing frozen
sections. Capable of assisting the Pathology on Staff in the Gross Room
area. Also, experienced in cytology preparation and staining techniques.
Knowledgeable in Recycling Organic Solvent, Xylene and Alcohol, as well.
Histology Laboratory Packing/Shipping Procedures: Performs daily
distribution of tissue blocks and slides for delivery to healthcare
professionals and clients, send outs to reference laboratory.
Histotechnologist/Histology Technician(Research Assistant I-II): Supervised
and trained Employees, Medical students, College students, Residents,
Fellows and PhD's in Immunohistochemistry procedures for Research. In the
Clinical Lab., developed protocols and procedures on new antibodies for
immunoperoxidase and immunofluorescence clinical studies. Trained other
staff in cutting 50 micron paraffin sections for flow cytometry, clinical
and research studies. Also, maintained muscle biopsies for enzyme
histochemistry and skin biopsies for immunofluorescence, clinical studies.
Acted as a Research Consultant for Molecular Biologist related to histology
routine staining procedures. Performed other clinical and research
laboratory work/bench station duties as needed. Prepared laboratory for
accreditations for College of American Pathology(CAP) and Joint Commission
Accreditation of Healthcare(JCAH) inspections.
