Summary
I have completed Ph.D in Chemical Engineering from University of Newcastle,
NSW, Australia and previously completed undergraduate degree in Materials
and Metallurgical Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and
Technology (BUET) in 2008. I am a qualified Metallurgist/Chemical Engineer
and currently I am seeking a position in Chemical and Process Engineering
field where I can make contribution to the organisation and gain
experience. I am holding a 5 years valid visa and also in the process of
becoming a resident of United States of America.
Education
2009 -2014 Ph.D in Chemical Engineering
University of Newcastle, NSW, Australia
. Focused on flotation technique used as separation
process in mineral processing field. This entailed
acquiring knowledge on mineral processing and
fundamentals of flotation process, designing
flotation cells, performing coal, oxide and base
metal flotation, planning and performing test works
at laboratory and plant scale flotation circuits,
mass balancing, data analysis, writing technical
reports and journal papers, presenting work at
seminars and conferences.
. Studied designing of complex plant flotation
circuits.
. Performed test works at North Parkes copper mine site
for two weeks in 2011. This work involved performing
flotation of sulphide ores, dealing with flotation
reagents, measuring of recovery of industrial scale
flotation cell and communicating with plant
engineers.
. Awarded an International Postgraduate Research
Scholarship (UNIPRS) and Postgraduate Research
Scholarship External (UNRSE) from University of
Newcastle, NSW, Australia.
2003-2008 B.Sc Engineering in Materials and Metallurgical Engineering
Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology
(BUET)
. Studied different aspects of extractive metallurgy
such as mineral processing, hydrometallurgy,
pyrometallurgy, electrometallurgy.
. Acquired knowledge on ferrous and non-ferrous
production metallurgy. Also gained extensive
knowledge on basic oxygen steelmaking (BOS) and
electric arc furnace (EAF) steelmaking techniques.
. Studied principles of materials characterisation and
polymer science.
Professional Experience
Sep 2013 - May 2014 Chemical Engineer
Hunter Process Technology, University of Newcastle, NSW
. Performing research work in Mineral Processing field
under short term contract for Laureate Professor
Graeme Jameson.
. Performing flotation experiments of sulphide ores,
using of sizing techniques (screening and laser
sizer) and image processing techniques to determine
the shape factor of particles reduced by different
grinding media and their effect on flotation.
Aug 2012 & Oct 2013 Lab Demonstrator
University of New South Wales, Sydney
. Demonstrating grinding and particle sizing
experiments to second and final year undergraduate
students, in a group of 20.
. Marking laboratory reports and assignments.
Mar 2010 Copper Concentrator Analyst
Northparkes Rio Tinto Copper Concentrator, NSW, Australia
. Undertook a plant survey, analysis of the survey
data, communicating with plant engineers and
controllers.
Industrial Experience
Jan 2008 Trainee Metallurgist
Bashundhara Steel Complex Ltd., Dhaka, Bangladesh
. Working and getting familiar with the steelmelting
unit, furnaces, re-rolling mill unit to produce high
quality steel billet and deformed bar.
Nov 2007 Trainee Materials Engineer
MEB Glass Industry Ltd., Dhaka, Bangladesh
. Working with latest float glass process and
technology to produce high quality tempered glass.
Dec 2007 Trainee Materials Engineer
National Polymer Industry Ltd., Dhaka, Bangladesh
. Getting familiar with the polymer tubing extrusion
process to produce high quality PVC pipe.
Oral Presentations
. Rahman, R.M., Ata, S., Jameson, G.J., 2012. Froth recovery
measurements in an industrial flotation cell. Paper presented at, XXVI
International Mineral Processing Congress, New Delhi, India.
. Presented Ph.D confirmation seminar at University of Newcastle,
Australia (December 2010).
. Presented a seminar at Julius Kruttschnitt Mineral Research Centre,
The University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia (May 2010).
