Directed the community outreach policies and procedures of the Institute and built/enhanced the Institute’s relationships with private/public organizations and institutions in Atlanta and the surrounding area. Furthered the business aspects of Georgia Tech by being a key liaison and representative for Georgia Tech with local communities, city and county government entities, Metro Atlanta K-12 schools, along with creation of over 150 business partners and non-profit organizations. Paired the Institute’s expertise in technology with corporations, agencies, associations, school systems, other institutions, local communities and city government in order to maximize the effectiveness of outreach efforts. Specifically, she encouraged faculty, staff, students, alumni and retirees to exhibit civic responsibility in local community outreach and K-12 enhancement. Collaborated with her peers at three graduate/research institutions and formed/managed the Atlanta Outreach Consortium where the four institutions worked together in response to the needs of communities and the City of Atlanta by seeking creative ways of addressing metropolitan problems through education and service. In addition, Andrea co-taught an Honors Program/History Technology and Society course that allowed students to better understand the history of Atlanta and local communities that border the campus, and to craft research and outreach projects that helped build capacity for the neighborhood. Also, Andrea chaired the Atlanta Partners for Education Board for the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce from 2008-2011. APFE provides a bridge between Atlanta Public Schools, the Chamber of Commerce and corporate entities to help enhance the education process.
