WORK EXPERIENCE
• Two months’ work experiences as Instrument Mechanic Lecturer in an Industrial Training
Institute for Instrument Engineering Trade
ACHIEVEMENTS
• GATE 2012 Qualified with 94.35 percentile.
• Participated in ISA technical activity seminar on Industrial Automation.
• Attended 3 day workshop on Software Defined Radio.
SKILL SET
1. Languages: C Programming, MATLAB, Micro Controller, R Programming (programming
language and software environment for statistical computing, data analysis and graphics).
2. Software: LaTeX (used for communication and publication of scientific documents), MS
office (Word, Excel, PPT).
3. Platforms: Linux, Windows
INDUSTRIAL EXPERIENCE
• FACT Udyogamandal Division, Eloor.
Industrial training in FACT Ammonia plant gave in-depth insight to DCS operation and
function. This also provided hands on experience with various Field Instruments like
transmitters, Control Valves and Gauges. It provided an opportunity to put in practice the
theoretical knowledge acquired in the classroom with practical application of knowledge
required to perform an industrial task. Also, it gave a feel of live work environment and the
tools used in the industry.
• NeST, Technology Specialists Group, Trivandrum.
As a Project Trainee I was exposed to live project environment in a software development
setting with rigorous training in R Programming and was given opportunity to learn the
basics of the software development process. I was also able to contribute to an assigned
project on a very basic level.
PROJECT WORK
1. Diagnosing lung status using PPG-derived respiratory signals
This project work presents a novel algorithm for diagnosing lung status using
photoplethysmographic (PPG)-derived respiratory signals. The algorithm contains two steps.
First one is the Respiratory cycle extraction process and second one is the automatic
evaluation of lungs status by the extracted respiratory signal. Modified Multiscale Principal
Component Analysis (MMSPCA) is used for extraction of respiratory activity embedded in
the PPG signals. A Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier classifies the extracted
respiratory signals to normal or abnormal signal according to the number of beats per
minutes and signal energy. Simulation results in MATLAB shown that the algorithm
effectively diagnoses the lung status using the extracted respiratory signals.
1. Zerotree Coding of Compression of ECG Signal
This Project was taken up to transmit large amount of ECG and other biomedical data signals
through communication channels when capacity of the communication channels becomes a
constrain. Prominence of elective ECG data compression technique is high in these scenarios.
Project used Embedded Zerotree Wavelet algorithm in MATLAB for ECG data
compression and evaluated the characteristics and compression performance of ECG signals.
2. Binary Distillation Column Controller Using Fuzzy Logic
The project work used control strategy that combines decoupling, PID and fuzzy controller
for of the Binary Distillation Column of Methanol & Water. The processes of the distillation
column with its fuzzy controllers were simulated in MATLAB Simulink and fuzzy systems
were implemented in MATLAB using FIS Editor. The separation of methanol-water mixture
requires two control objects i.e., control of the composition of the distillate and control of the
composite of the bottom products.
Project compared response of PID WITHOUT DECOUPLER, WITH DECOUPLER &
FUZZY WITH DECOUPLER. The process controlled with fuzzy controller was found to be
faster and reaches the steady state values with minimum oscillations in both top and bottom
products composition control, compared with other two methods.
3. On Load Tap Changing
On Load Tap Changing: OLTC is used to change the tapping connection of the transformer
winding for voltage regulation under load condition of medium and large size feeder and
network without interrupting its service. By introducing OLTC in an electrical system, it
improves the operating efficiency of that system. LM358N Dual Operational Amplifier was
used as comparator circuit, 8-bit PIC controller PIC16F877A was programmed to compare
and energise the relay. A high-voltage, high-current Darlington transistor array ULN2003
relay was used for this purpose.
