Duties: Work in road test and preform pre-shop analysis M1114 up armor HMMWV, drive vehicles as required in
diagnosing malfunctions and placing in an operable condition for pre-inspection. Preform duties involved in the
troubleshooting, checkout, adjustment and tune-up of assembled heavy mobile equipment. Examine vehicles,
starts, and preform necessary operational checks to detect malfunctions in various systems. Diagnose causes
of deficiencies and malfunction noticed during operational tests and subsequent formal inspection; adjust,
align, replace parts or components to correct, and preform repairs which can be accomplished without removal
of the major components such as replacement of injectors, blowers, steer differentials, final drives, etc.
Improvise troubleshooting methods to locate and correct malfunctions when normal journeyman procedures
are not sufficient.
Visually check over vehicles to identify missing parts of deficiencies prior to release for inspection. Repair
generated type defects such as hydraulic line leaks, misaligned or misadjusted items. Receive vehicle and
list discrepancies found by inspectors; determine causes of malfunctions of unit rejected by Quality Inspector.
Perform repair or replacement as necessary ranging from minor adjustment to complete rebuild. Make
diagnosis of all malfunctions; make necessary adjustments to accomplish corrections or make such repairs
to units, assemblies or parts that are possible without a complete disassembly and rebuild process. Make
any replacement necessary where repair is found impractical. Diagnose malfunctions of defective units and
repair, replace items as required, assemble and preform limited functional tests such as testing for leaks,
misalignments, out of adjustment, etc.
When extensive repairs are required on individual unit components, the applicable items are removed and
repair accomplished in specialty shops; repaired components or replacements are re-installed, adjusted and
aligned on the vehicle. Preform rebuild/repair, assembly, adjustment, troubleshoot, and applicable functional
test of major mechanical systems and components for heavy mobile vehicles. Systems and components
include but are not limited to engines, suspension, and brake systems, steer differentials, final drives, auxiliary
generator sets, fuel injector fuel pumps, etc. Utilize a variety of gauges and instruments such as inside and
outside micrometers, bore scopes, dial bore gauges, straight edges, dyes, etc. to determine if engine can be
repaired by pre-shop method. Assist in providing surveillance over lower grade workers performing assembly
of mechanical components and provide technical assistance as required. Assist in performing diagnosis of
malfunctions on items being repaired/rebuilt by lower grade workers. Uses a variety of hand tools, mechanic
tools, and measuring equipment such as micrometers, dial indicators, torque wrenches, etc.
Utilize blueprint schematics, technical publications, and technical manuals, as required. Diagnose, dismantle,
rebuild, repair, and modify a variety of air conditioning systems and cooling units. Dismantle, repair, and
reassemble heaters for various military and special purpose vehicles. Analyze malfunctions and make visual,
audible, and mechanical checks for elements such as the proper operation of different parts of the refrigeration
and/or heating cycle; low side and high side pressure; temperatures of the cooling units, liquid and suction
lines; proper oil levels; unusual noises; overheated bearings; loose connections; leaks; frayed or loose belts,
gaskets, and pulleys; and other similar defects. Replace major components such as hermetically sealed
motors, compressors, condensers, thermostats, coils, and drive assemblies.
Dismantle, repair, and reassemble units such as pumps, impellers, compressors, chillers, receivers, and
evaporators. Install and fit connecting rods, crank shafts, piston rings, bearings, and bushings. Overhaul valves
by adjusting or replacing gaskets, springs, floats, diaphragms, valve fittings, seals, and couplings. Tighten
connections, make splices, and insulate exposed wires. Clean and lubricate moving parts. Drain, recycle,
and recharge air conditioning systems with refrigerant (Freon) using a refrigerant recovery and recycling
equipment. Use a variety of test procedures and test equipment (e.g. pressure gauges, vacuum pumps,
multimeter, amperage meters, heater test stand, etc.). Selects and interprets technical manuals, diagrams,
illustrations, electrical schematics, and other similar guides. Work closely and had direct interface with vehicle
designers, contractors, and engineers to resolve problems encountered with major vehicle systems and to
assist in resolving design and performance problems. Independently develop troubleshooting, diagnostic, and
repair procedures, as needed.

Duties: Work in building 592 disassembling armor on personnel carriers. Perform a variety of job duties
disassembling, assembling, repairing, adjusting, troubleshooting; a variety of components, sub-assemblies,
assemblies utilized on HMMWV's and associated equipment. Exercise care to avoid damaging items being
removed by hand tools and power tools. Perform visual in-process inspection of the items removed for
obvious defects such as cracks, broken items, scoring, deep pitting, and cracked heads. Perform repair,
rebuild, assembly of major fuel, mechanical, suspension components such as final drives, differentials, steering
assemblies, cooling fans, blowers, linkages, brakes, levers, winches, etc. Determine serviceability of parts.

according to established specifications, using technical manuals, work orders, other applicable technical
publications. Assist in the adjustment, repair of defective or rejected engines. Visually inspect, perform
dimensional check of camshaft and bearings, check for end play on crankshaft, install flywheel. Install oil,
fuel pumps, and fuel injection pumps. Use precision measuring instruments. Install items such as generators,
water pumps, starter, oil, fuel filters, tappet covers, and set timing. Install final drive assembly, various fuel,
oil lines, fuel cells, engine, transmission, controls, instrument panels, instruments, check all drain plug covers,
manual drain controls for proper position, check all units, services with prescribed applicants, fuels. Utilize a
variety of tools common to the trade such as wrenches, pliers, ignition tools, screwdrivers, a variety of test
equipment such as feeler gauges, micrometers, etc. Assist in final checks, tune, and adjustments of vehicle
prior to presentation for final inspection. Adjust, repair or replace parts or units that are acceptable, final drive,
steering assemblies, engine accessories, etc. Repair generated type rejects such as hydraulic leaks, air leaks,
and misaligned items. Replace hydraulic lines on vehicles. Rebuild brake cylinders and calipers. Install decals,
applicable kit items, straps, etc. Install troubleshoot, repair wiring harness, electrical, gauges, sending units,
etc. Tear down and rebuild. Inventory and stock HMMWV, 10K, 4K, HMMWV ambulances. Follow al safety
rules, regulations, wear all protective clothing and equipment necessary for job performance. Maintain work
area in order to prevent accidents. Perform preventive maintenance on all tools and equipment utilized in the

Duties: Performs 30 level Shop-level maintenance on types of major systems on the complete range of vehicles
in the U.S. Army inventory. Major systems may be mechanical, electromechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, etc.
For wheeled vehicles, power train or drive line should be understood to include drive shafts, axles, bogies,
differentials, power dividers, transfer cases, final drives, etc. Suspension systems for tracked vehicles include
single and double support rollers, idlers, and hydro-mechanical road arms.
