(1) ‘ROTA’ Inspection and Efficiency Optimization
PROJECT
Organization BOSCH Ltd., Adugodi, Bangalore
Feb 2014 – May 2014
Duration
Project Goal To assess and evaluate the need for the ROTA process in the
manufacture of Delivery Valves (DV)
Issue Core processes and Key processes are fundamental
components of the manufacturing process that cannot be
modified. However, processes (such as ROTA) are routinely
carried out merely as a result of inheritance or convention and
in some cases as a formality. It is necessary to inspect and
establish a correlation between the execution of the ROTA
process and the mechanical parameters of the DV.

Application Data was collected for various types of DVs under different
conditions with ROTA process on and off. The parameters of
the DV were compared with specification limits and compared
in both cases.
Inference There was no strong correlation between the mechanical
parameters of the DV and that of the ROTA Test
Result ROTA Test is withdrawn. It is no longer a part of the DV
manufacturing process. The quality of the final product is not
impacted. The removal of this non-value adding activity has
saved labor, materials operations costs to the tune of Rs.
54,00,000 ($900k) per annum.
(2) Remote Key-less Ignition (RKI) System
Description It is an RFID based controller that detects the presence of the
driver as soon as he is in his seat and triggers the switching ON
of the ignition system of the car.
(3) Infrasonic Weapon
Description It is a weapon that generates infra-sound through a high power
woofer and uses the principle of resonance that affects the
human body. This project was conducted in a safe
environment, under supervision.
