Resume:

Adam Parrish Seay

EDUCATION

Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University

Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering, May 2013

WORK EXPERIENCE

Virginia International Terminals, Norfolk, VA Technical Support Contractor 06/2014 – 08/2014 (contract via Port

Solution Integrators)

• Assisted with the deployment of a new port operations software system, including pre-deployment system testing and

post-deployment technical support for on-site handheld operators.

• Provided technical support for night container train operations including on-site technical troubleshooting and system-

related problem solving.

• Provided on-site training for handheld computer software for the occasional new untrained worker.

• Performed timekeeping data records and analysis for critical segments of the operation’s container flow.

Port Solution Integrators, Portsmouth, VA Intern 12/2009 – 01/2013 (school breaks)

• Hands on experience with performing assembly and testing of two Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) devices used

for record keeping and assurance of proper container arrival/departure.

• Designed preliminary structural and mounting device for a maintenance and repair railroad portal used to monitor

container and train car damage.

• Performed full enclosure design for a kiosk-style extension using Autodesk Inventor.

• Assisted in the design and refinement of the hardware enclosures for the aforementioned RFID capable devices.

• Assisted with the maintenance and troubleshooting of AXIS brand surveillance cameras including hardware

replacement and software configuration.

ACADEMIC PROJECTS

Bio-inspired Crash Avoidance Sensor Algorithm Senior Design Course 2012 – 2013

• Experience working at the Center for Injury Biomechanics in the Institute for Critical Technology and Applied Science at

Virginia Tech.

• Hands on experience leading the team’s software development efforts, coding in MATLAB and Visual Studio/C++, and divided

up the necessary workloads between the team’s members.

• Responsible for utilizing the Computer Vision Toolbox in MATLAB and OpenCV 2.4.3 libraries for Visual Studio/C++.

• The project initially focused on developing a bio-inspired crash avoidance sensor that would ideally use a single optical sensor.

Using the biologically inspired optical flow theory, we were able to prove that a single camera based crash avoidance sensor

would work only on a small scale and with relatively low speeds (< 60m radius & < 40 m/s).

Hand-Gesture-Based Wireless Robot Control Mechatronics II Course Spring 2013

• Hands on experience utilizing a pre-release version of a Leap Motion Controller in conjunction with both LabVIEW embedded

for ARM and Visual Studio/C++ as well as an ARM microcontroller robot base platform.

• Responsible for designing the robot’s sensors (both pre-packaged and custom), command parsing algorithm, and sensor

feedback transmission algorithm.

• Experience with using an Xbee wifi module to directly communicate between the robot and the PC control code.
