EDUCATION
Master’s of Health Informatics (MHI), Dalhousie University, Halifax, NS, Canada (December
2012)
Master’s Thesis: An OWL Ontology for Modeling HL-7 Compliant Electronic Patient Records
for Chronic Disease Management. (funded by a scholarship from Green Shield, Canada)
Developed an ontology based EMR system, called CD-EMR Ontology. HL7 RIM and CDA were
used to capture the HL7 V3 message without using any parser or intermediate application
Employed knowledge of HL7 version 3 RIM backbone classes and data type properties
Developed a controlled vocabulary of SNOMED-CT in CD-EMR ontology, which provides the
SNOMED-CT code to each medical concept of the record

Karachi, Pakistan (July 2006)
Certification St. John Ambulance Emergency First Aid CPR Certificate, (valid until Sep 2014)

HEALTH INFORMATICS PROJECTS
Computerization of Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG) into the CPG Ontology
Worked in collaboration with my peer, on a project of 4 months duration
Studied the paper-based Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG’s) and abstracted the clinical
knowledge form CPG’s
Leveraged the abstracted knowledge to develop workflow diagrams for CPG’s using
software Star-UML
Utilized the abstracted clinical knowledge and workflows in Computerization of paper based
Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG) into a pre-existing CPG Ontology
CPG Ontology can be used as a part of Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS)
Development of Ontology-based CIS for diagnosis and management of Sexually
Transmitted Diseases (STDs)
Collaborated with 3 peers to successfully develop an Ontology-based CIS for diagnosis and
management of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD’s)
Managed the team as a group leader, distributed tasks among the group members, conducted
group meetings to assess progress, to discuss issues and resolve conflicts, and encouraged
them to meet deadlines
This system can assist healthcare provider in decision making process while treating a patient
suffering from STDs according to evidence-based recommendations
Worked on medical knowledge abstraction, ontology engineering, and system evaluation.
Accomplishment: Successful completion of a 4 months project in 13 week
Assessment of Patient and Information Flow at Capital Health (CDHA)
Collaborated with 2 peers to successfully investigate bottlenecks in patient flow and analyzed
the information flow at Capital Health (CDHA)
Acted as a group leader to assure proper communication between my group and the concern
persons at CDHA, set up meeting for the group to visit CDHA to collect information
Managed the team by distribution of tasks among group members, arrangement of group
meetings to assess progress, to discuss issues, to resolve conflicts, and to encourage them to
meet deadlines
Analyzed the collected information to investigate the process of patient and information flow
at Capital Health (CDHA)
Developed workflow diagrams and flow charts to demonstrate the bottlenecks
4
Proposed alternatives to overcome the bottlenecks
Successful completion and presentation of the project to a group of 25
Statistical analysis of the CCHS 2005 dataset to determine the association of diabetes with
various factors such as age, sex, and BMI
Worked independently on a project of 4 months duration
Conducted statistical analysis on Canadian Community Health Survey (CCHS) 2005 dataset,
to determine the association of diabetes with various factors
Performed statistical analysis by running different statistical method such as Chi Square,
Cochran-Mantel-Haenszel-Method (CMH1), T-Test, and Logistic Regression using SAS
Plotted histograms and box plot to determine the distribution of data
Data mining of the medical data set to analyze co-morbidities and risk factors associated
with diabetes
Group project of 4 months duration
Analysis of Framingham data set using Software WEKA
To analyze our dataset, in first testing, we used the attribute selection filter with Chi-square
evaluator and ranker method with J48 tree classifier
In second testing, we used Relief F attribute evaluator and ranker method with PART rule
classifier of WEKA version 3-6-3
Successful completion and presentation of the project to a group of 27
