EXPERIENCE
Montclair State University, Montclair, NJ Sep 2010 – Present
Research Assistant – Corporative project with Rutgers University on environmental site assessment
Reviewed historical records and interacted with officers of the interested site, conducted sample collection on 21 AOCs,
performed preliminary sample analysis, tabulated data and evaluated ecological risk. Identified 6 potential sites for remediation, 11
sites with potential ecological risk. Demonstrated the relationship between plant contaminant assimilation and soil properties.
Contributed to one reviewed publication and one book chapter.
Familiar with NJDEP site remediation report (PA/SI, RI, GIN) and NJDEP regulations on site remediation(N.J.A.C.
7:26B/C/D/E)
Materials worked with: sediments, soils, tissues of herbaceous and woody plants, water.
Parameters measured/recorded: soil texture, soil water level, soil temperature, plant biomass.
Contamination assessment criteria used: EPA Soil Cleanup Criteria, EPA Ecological Soil Screening Levels, NJDEP
Ecological Evaluation Technical Guidance, ATSDR Toxicological profiles.
Indexes used for environmental site assessment: Total Metal Load, Enrichment Factor, Geoaccumulation Index,
Bioaccumulation Factor, Translocation Factor, Hazardous Quotient, etc.
Statistical approach: Principal Component Analysis, Factor Analysis, Fit model with simple linear/multiple/non-
linear/stepwise regression, ANOVA, etc.
Brookhaven National Laboratory, Upton, NY Nov 2010 – Sep 2014
Junior Guest Research Associate
Developed algorithms to extract information from a large data set and then transformed/classified them for further statistical
analysis. Processed over 5000 cases and demonstrated the relationship between contaminant transportation, edaphic environment,
and ecological receptors. Contributed to one reviewed publication.
Collected data generated by µ XRF, XRD, and XANES techniques on trace metal localization in soil and plant samples.
MATLAB matrix/arrays numeric computation; data analysis and visualization.
Stony Brook University, Stony Brook, NY June 2012 – Aug 2012
Geochemical Lab Technician June 2013 – Aug 2013
Prepared laboratory data to support environmental site assessment. Followed EPA 3050B for sample digestion. Evaluated the
liability of test data based EPA Quality Control Guideline. 39 plant samples, 18 soil samples, 12 soil cores, and 8 soil pore waters
samples were processed. Contributed to one peer-reviewed publication.
Sample processed: sediment, soil, plant tissues
Instruments used: ICP-MS, ICP-OES, AAS, HPLC, UV-Vis
Parameters measured: metal concentration, soil pH, soil TOC, soil OM, soil PSD, soil CEC, soil pore water, etc.
Quality control approaches: standard addition, triplicate samples, blank control, NIST control.
Montclair State University, New Jersey, NJ Sep 2012 – Dec 2012
GIS analyst
Investigated how population of Morris County residents was related to site contamination, land use, and water
impairment. Created maps.
