M.TECH PROJECT:
Project Name: “Experimental investigation & analysis of biodiesel derived from Waste cooking oil & optimization of process parameters using multi-functional criteria technique”
Reason to take this project:
* Biodiesel as an alternative fuel for diesel engines is becoming increasingly important due to diminishing petroleum reserves and the environmental consequences of exhaust gases from petroleum-fuelled engines.
* Extinction of fossil fuels and future need.
What were challenges faced:
* Selection of edible oil.
* Determining their properties like flash point, fire point, viscosity, calorific value and acid value are conducted to determine the characteristic of oil.
* To design and modification of existing lab scale reactor for the production of biodiesel. Production and optimization of biodiesel for maximum yield by transesterification process.
Advantages
* Biodiesel is made from renewable fats and oils, such as vegetable and canola oil, by a simple refining process.
* It can be used in existing engines and fuel injection equipment without negative impacts to operating performance.
* It can replace or blend with petroleum diesel with little or no engine modifications.
* Pure biodiesel is biodegradable, non-toxic, and essentially free of sulfur and aromatics.
Disadvantages:
* Pure vegetable oil used as biodiesel has a tendency to gum up injectors, so they might need overhauling more often.
* Higher viscosity of biodiesel at low temperatures, sometimes making cold-weather starting difficult.
* The emission that goes up with the use biodiesel is NOx. NOx contributes to smog.
B.E PROJECT:
Project Name: “accessory design for a power press of 30 ton capacity”
Reason to take this project:
* A power press is one of the most important machines used by fabricators and metal-working and is a very useful piece of machinery that performs several vital operations.
* Fabrication is an evergreen industry and a very basic requirement of all industries and there will always be demand for the services of fabricators and metal-workers.
What were challenges faced: designing of parts of the screw jack such as accessory, table, roller, pin, and bush.etc, depending on the materials used and with the standard design.
