Career Experience
Electrolux (Cooking Division), Memphis, TN 11/12 - Present (Products: Electric/Gas Ranges)
Operations Manager
Operational leader of the $190M/year slide-in business unit. Key responsibilities for this position are safety, quality,
delivery and cost of operation. This position leads a salaried team consisting of a quality engineer, industrial engineer,
mechanical engineer, quality engineer, product engineer, material planner, and four supervisors. The manufacturing
team consist of around 400 hourly associates.
• Launched production at a green-field site which included assembly line design and installation,
PFMEA/Quality Control Plan, team development, and systems development.
• Implemented a heijunka scheduling system to level-load the plant and insure all departments work at the true
takt-time set by the customers.
• Implemented a sequenced and Kanban material delivery system that delivers material one hour before
materials are consumed, significantly limiting the amount of inventory on the floor.
• Implemented a KPI management system so that teams on the floor can effectively pareto their top issues and
drive root-cause countermeasures. KPI Management also consist of daily Gemba walks of all takt-boards in
manufacturing to drive improvements.
General Electric (Energy Division), Selmer, TN 11/06 – 11/12 (Products: Industrial Busway)
Materials Manager 7/2011 – Present
Responsible for materials department, reporting directly to the plant manager. Key responsibilities for this position
were shipping, receiving, plant service level, and inventory minimization.
• Implemented visual management systems to reduce WIP. Results increased 2011 Q3 inventory turns from
17.2 to 18.9.
• Led project to verify all materials purchased have traceable UL documentation and created a monthly audit
process to insure process sustainability.
• Moved the stockroom location to a location in-line with the receiving dock, which reduced put-away time
and labor.
Manager of Shop Operations 11/2006 – 7/2011
Responsible for manufacturing department reporting directly to plant manager. Key responsibilities for this position
are plant environmental, health, and safety, manufacturing efficiencies, on-time delivery, quality, and fabrication
quality/scrap reduction. Position has five directly reporting supervisors and 125 total employees.
•Developed and implemented a drum-buffer-rope system for linking all fabrication equipment to the plant's constraint
to insure matching parts arrived in assembly at the appropriate time. Project resulted in a 67% reduction in
WIP while decreasing part set-offs.
•Implemented 5S, developed takt-versus-actual tracking to drive efficiencies, and led Total Productive Maintenance
program that resulted in >15% up-time improvement on key pieces of equipment.
•Ramped up production to achieve 30% increase in sales over a 4 month period. During ramp-up completed a cross-
training program to insure key positions were adequately deep.
•Helped develop part sequencing through fabrication to make sure the right parts were produced at the right time.
•My plant received three Division Plant of the Quarter awards within a 5 quarter period.
Delfield Company (an Enodis company), Covington, TN 4/05 - 11/06 (Products: Commercial
reach-in and undercounter refrigerators/freezers/heated units)
Assembly Manager 4/05 - 11/06
Responsible for all assembly operations for the Covington facility. Position reports directly to the Vice-President of
Operations. Key responsibilities for this position are direction of the manufacturing engineering team, plant safety,
plant efficiencies, and plant first-pass-yield. The position has five directly reporting supervisor positions and two
directly reporting manufacturing engineering resources in a facility that produces standard reach-in refrigerators,
custom reach-in refrigerator/freezers, under-counter refrigerators, and food prep refrigerators.
• Implemented a 5S system that included weekly 5S audits.
• Implemented a drum-buffer-rope scheduling system to reduce schedule points, thus reducing complexity.
Implementation of drum-buffer-rope system resulted in the standard line’s hours/unit dropping from 7.8 to
6.9 and compact standards line's hours/unit dropping from 3.2 to 2.8.
• Led two, line layout redesigns, which resulted in improved efficiency and quality.
• Implemented Statistical Process Control for key operations to reduce scrap and increase quality. Since SPC
implementation plant-wide FPY (First Pass Yield) has increased from 88% to 92%.
• Initiated a morning production meeting system that includes meeting with supervisors each morning and then
each supervisor holding meetings with their lead people.
• Implemented a system of breaking each work-station down into specific pitches (based on takt time), moving
all parts with-in the specific pitch, and cross-training operators for one-up/one-down operations for flexing
during absenteeism or rate reductions.
The Stanley Works, Tupelo, MS 5/04 - 11/05 (Products: Mirrored closet doors - bi-fold and
sliders - and mirror)
Lean/Sigma Coordinator
Responsibility for establishing and implementing a lean manufacturing and six-sigma program for facility. Led an
average of one kaizen event per month and two major six-sigma projects. Kaizen events included events to increase
line efficiencies by balancing workload to takt-time, 5S system implementation, single-minute exchange of dies for
quick set-ups, and re-layout to reduce travel times. Six-sigma projects included focused on scrap reduction and freight
damage reduction.
• Kaizen event in the special order production area resulted in a reduction of labor by 30%.
• Supervised up-to five quality technicians for sample testing of product.
• Wrote standard operating procedures (SOPs) for different operations in facility.
Master-Bilt Products (a Standex Company), New Albany, MS
1/00 - 5/04 (Products: Commercial reach-in and walk-in
refrigerator/freezers, tray racks, and garbage disposals)
Lean Coordinator
Developed and led a new lean manufacturing program for two facilities. Taught over 30 lean manufacturing classes to
shop-floor and office associates. Led over 20 kaizen events that resulted in significant inventory reductions, improved
line efficiencies, and reduced maintenance expenses. Implemented Kanban system for one product line that reduced
late orders and reduced inventory. Implemented 5S system that included an auditing system. Wrote and published a
monthly lean newsletter for showcasing improvements associates made through lean manufacturing principles and
kaizen events.
Manufacturing Engineer
Major responsibility was the project management responsibilities for the relocation of a manufacturing facility. As
part of the plant relocation, my responsibility was to consolidate production lines to make room for new facility in
existing facility. Also I worked on capital equipment justification, time-study for line-balancing, and implementation
of Kanban system.
