Northeast Utilities, Berlin, Connecticut 12/1989 to 5/2014

IT Business Application Systems Developer

• Administered applications, identified weaknesses, and recommended enhancements. Met application-level SLAs by performing

corrective actions. Identified performance and tuning opportunities, and implemented corrective solutions.

• Provided support for infrastructure initiatives, including server upgrades, database upgrades, and desktop client upgrades.

• Performed cost-benefit analysis and processed client requirements, providing effective and optimal solutions to customers.

• Designed and developed new applications and interfaces to support business growth.

• Collaborated with software vendors of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) to provide best solutions to business problems.

Installed new vendor applications. Identified necessary modifications to partner applications and interfaces. Performed release

upgrades for existing vendor applications.

• Conducted application decommissioning and legacy application retirement activities.

• Provided user training and production support. Worked closely with users to refine business processes to support running

applications. Documented business rules, functional and technical designs, test cases, and user guides.

• Ensured applications complied with established security standards, Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) controls, and release management.

• Gathered, analyzed, and reported operational metrics. Produced and maintained database reports and queries.

• Mentored and trained direct and indirect resources. Provided consulting services to other IT groups within the organization.

Key Accomplishments

• Participated in the implementation of new Meter Data Management (MDM) system to provide a central repository for all meter

reads. Responsible for the data-cleansing and conversion initiative of gas metering data to support MDM. On Oracle 11g, wrote

ETL scripts, PL/SQL stored procedures, and scheduled tasks to perform extracts of data, loading data into staging tables via

SQL*LDR. Wrote C# program, using OpenXML library to produce Excel reports capturing data quality metrics.

• Technical lead on the team that designed, developed, tested and implemented a new state of the art Field Force Automation

system to replace the out-of-date Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system. The implementation was a tremendous success with

the executive sponsor giving it an 11 on a scale of 1 to 10.

• Selected by senior management after several failed attempts by the vendor to lead the effort to split a rapidly growing 3 billion

row meter read database into two instances. The SQL Server 2000 database was shared by several business groups - one for real

time monitoring and reporting; and another for complex billing. Converted and split the database into two separate side-by-side

instances running on SQL Server 2005 EE. Shared solution with vendor in exchange for reduced licensing fees.

• Wrote gas meter bill tracker application for tracking issues related to processing of meter reads to customer service billing

system. Developed .NET WinForms client application in C# 3.5 for user interface. Used strongly typed data sets, Microsoft

Enterprise Library 4.1, and T-SQL stored procedures. Used SQL Server 2005 for data storage. Wrote .NET Windows Service

that ran on Windows Server 2008 R2 virtual server to load data files from various partner systems.

• Wrote custom in-house Mobile Asset Tracking (MAT) application to provide a real-time AVL solution recording GPS locations

of mobile assets. Application consisted of: MATServer and MATMoble .NET Window Services; and MATDispatch and

MATLauncher .NET WinForms clients. Wrote initial version in VB.NET 1.1, second version in C# 2.0, and final version in C#

3.5. Enhanced MATDispatch client to use embedded browser control displaying mapping tiles returned from Microsoft BING

AJAX Web service instead.

• Migrated and converted over 250 database objects and T-SQL stored procedures from Sybase 12 ASE to SQL Server 2008 R2.

Oversaw major rewrite to work around depreciated features no longer available on new database platform.
