EXPERIENCE OVERVIEW
I bring a combined 19 years of academic, work* and military experience to this position. As a Research
Administrator at The Rehabilitation Research & Training Center (RRTC) at Virginia Commonwealth
University (VCU), I have served as research coordinator for the Homeless Veterans Reintegration
Program National Technical Assistance Center at VCU-RRTC, which included duties involving statistical
analysis, tool development, speaking engagements, evaluation and reporting, data deliverables, issue
escalation, milestone/benchmark reporting, and partner (customer) relationship management. Other
activities encompassed in this position included an on-site survey analysis of HVRP grantees to delineate
performance levels.
I was also the research coordinator for The Efficacy of Supported Employment for Homeless Individuals
with Mental Health and Substance Abuse Barriers and the VR&E Service Employment of Individuals
with Severe Injuries Study. Research activities included data gathering and analysis, tool development
and reporting, as well as contractual management. Previous to these duties, I worked on a grant funded
by the Department of Labor, Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) involving teleworking and
persons with disabilities. Research activities included a survey of teleworkers with disabilities regarding
their satisfaction of earnings, benefits, supports, and career options. During my tenure at VCU-RRTC, I
obtained my PhD in Education (Urban Services Leadership), which is a degree program I designed
focusing on statistical research methods and writing for publication.
Before coming to VCU, I was employed at the University of Arizona as a Research Specialist. My
research focused on a smoking cessation grant through The Network for Information & Counseling Unit.
While at the University of Arizona, I obtained my Master’s Degree in Epidemiology and Statistics.
Beyond my professional and academic career, I served over 12 years in the U.S. Army. I spent eight
years as a Counterintelligence Agent serving the Pacific Rim including the Western United States, Korea
and Japan. The last four years of my service were spent as a Parachute Rigger at Fort Bragg, NC. I have
traveled around the world as a Soldier, trained in several different disciplines, and maintain camaraderie
and rapport with Veterans and people from all walks of life.
I am a proud Veteran and military spouse. My husband is Active Duty Army and we do relocate more
often than civilians. Due to my unique situation, I signed a telecommuting agreement with VCU-RRTC
many years ago. I have successfully maintained a professional home office while moving around the
Country, including Virginia, California, Hawaii and now North Carolina. We will be in Sanford, NC,
another two years and then again in Virginia. My experience, including previous relationships with the
military, Department of Veterans Affairs, extended knowledge of research and evaluation, statistical
research capabilities, end-to-end delivery of data management services, and successful management of
home-based employment qualifies me to excel in this position with your company.
