ELECTRICAL DESIGN ENGINEER
Design engineer who drives continuous improvement through use of technical
acumen, process analysis, and interpersonal skills. Strong analog design
background with an emphasis in data acquisition and signal conditioning
techniques for analog to digital conversion. Experienced with Mentor
Graphics PADS PCB design, Simetrix/Simplis analog/power circuit simulation,
Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
MURATA POWER SOLUTIONS, INC (formerly DATEL, INC) Mansfield, MA 1989-
2014
MIL-PRF-38534 certified manufacturer of Multi-Chip data acquisition and
conversion components, analog/mixed signal products, power supplies, and
digital panel meters for military, industrial and commercial markets.
Senior Electrical Design Engineer (1994-2014)
Designed standard and custom board level SAMPLING ANALOG TO DIGITAL
CONVERTERS, SAMPLE AND HOLD AMPLIFIERS, IMAGING CIRCUITS and COMPLETE DATA
ACQUISITION SYSTEMS. Products were designed using monolithic, thin-film
hybrid, thick-film hybrid, and/or SMT technologies. Many are currently
used worldwide in major military defense and aerospace programs and in
industrial, commercial and medical imaging equipment. Some examples of my
latest designs are:
. 18 bit, 1MHz, Sampling A/D Converter (most recent)
. 14 bit, 2MHz, Sampling A/D Converter for CCD Imaging Applications
. 8 bit, 20MHz, Complete FLASH A/D Converter
. Dual 14 bit, 10MHz, Sampling A/D Converter
. 14 bit accurate, 100ns Acquisition Time, Correlated Double Sampling
Circuit
. 14 bit accurate, 35ns Acquisition Time, Sample and Hold Amplifier
. 16 bit accurate, 800ns Acquisition Time, Sample and Hold Amplifier
. 12 bit, 8 Channel, Data Acquisition System containing analog
multiplexers, an instrumentation amplifier, a sample and hold amplifier,
an A/D converter, a voltage reference, digital output buffers, and
timing/control logic
Fully responsible for the entire design cycle, including:
. Identify potential customer's requirements
. Conceptualize the design plan
. Analyze projected costs and time-line
. Review with customer the design plan/schedule
. Design the electrical circuits used in the custom product and create the
schematics using PADS design software
. Collaborate with mechanical engineers to address packaging issues
. Negotiate with vendors to ensure that design components would be
delivered on time and at the required price
. Advise CAD designer on optimal physical placement of components on the
substrate/PCB
. Review first draft of layout, direct CAD designer on necessary
modifications, review final draft of layout
. Formulate a test plan with test engineer, including the development of
test software and hardware
. Organize fabrication of prototype units
. Evaluate prototype units over their full temperature range using
oscilloscopes, signal generators, digital multimeters, spectrum
analyzers, and dynamic FFT test systems
. Optimize prototype units and determine whether a slight re-design or re-
layout is required
. Conduct and document Design Verification Testing prior to product release
from engineering
. Coordinate the assembly of a full production build of evaluation units
. Monitor the production units as they go through assembly, trim, test, and
qualification
. Develop all documentation for the product, including internal test
procedures and external data sheets
. Inform customer of any schedule changes throughout the design process
. Oversee the full release of product
. Resolve any issues that may arise during the lifetime of the product by
corresponding with customers via conference calls or site visits
Junior Engineer (1989-1994)
Assist senior engineers with various design projects:
. Design and build test fixtures
. Test and laser trim new product prototype units
. Troubleshoot products and conceptualize a solution to fix them
. Guide manufacturing technicians on the production floor
. Design partial sections of a new product
. Investigate potential second sources for components in a design
. Evaluate potential new components for an existing product to replace ones
that are no longer available
