Surgical Services Director

• Responsible for the oversight of the surgical services department, both

i npatient and the ASC, consisting of the inpatient OR(6), PACU, OPS,

CSR and outpatient OR(2), PACU and pre-op clinic.

• Management of the GI unit within the ASC

• Growth and development of staff including 70+ FTE’s and 3

supervisors

• Administrative functions (i.e. hiring/fi ring, budget, etc…)

Accomplishments:

• Maintain expenses under 20% of budget.

• Insti tuted PAR levels across the department to decrease unused

supplies

• Improve staff satisfaction by instituting “employee of the month” and

award certificates and small gifts

• Flex staff everyday according to the surgical schedule improving

day/ out-patient uni t.

• Oversight of 50 FTE’s and 2 supervisors

• Administrative functions (hiring/fi ring, budget, performance

evaluations)

Accomplishments:

• Maintained the department expenses by limiting purchases of new

equipment and acquiring equipment through re-furb vendors

• Worked with CFO to cap prices of orthopedic implants which decreased

expenditures significantly

• Developed a PAR level plan for supply inventory

• Increased staff communication by developing a newsletter for the staff

and attending surgery department meetings to share information on

volume and staffing with surgeons

• Maintained staffing slightly under 95% by f lexing according to volume

• Insti tuted AORN Peri-op 101 for new nurses coming into the OR. This

was used in lieu of a nurse educator which was not within the budget
