ALBANY COLLEGE OF PHARMACY AND HEALTH SCIENCES – ALBANY, NY
EDUCATION
Master of Sciences in Pharmaceutical Sciences (Candidate)
Graduation: August 16, 2014 OPT start date- August 18, 2014
Thesis Title: “Determination of Synergistic Antioxidant Activity of α- and δ Tocopherylcarbamate
Co-Drugs on UV-induced Lipid in Skin”
cGPA: 3.7/4.0
DR. BHANUBEN NANAVATI COLLEGE OF PHAMACY, UNIV. OF MUMBAI, MUMBAI,
INDIA
Bachelor of Pharmacy
Graduation: May 2012
GRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIP JAN 2014
EXPERIENCE
– MAY 2014
• Evaluated antioxidant activity of the co-drugs to inhibit lipid peroxidation induced using
solar simulator
• Performed protein normalization using BCA protein assay
• Developed method for inducing protein oxidation in skin using UVR, and confirmed using
gel electrophoresis followed by Western Blots.
GRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIP OCT 2013
– DEC 2013
• Determined the dose of UVR required to induce lipid peroxidation in porcine skin using
solar simulator
• Performed co-drug penetration studies (in vitro studies) using Franz Diffusion Cell
GRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIP FEB 2013
– MAY 2013
• Synthesized one of the parent compounds using wet chemistry method and analyzed it
using Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC), Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy
and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (H-NMR/C-NMR)
• Purified the parent compound using Flash Column Chromatography
• Developed method for thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) assay to evaluate
the antioxidant activity of co-drugs as well as the parent compounds to inhibit lipid
peroxidation in porcine skin.
• Prepared samples and measured the antioxidant activity of co-drugs and parent compounds
using UV-Vis Spectrophotometer and its extent of hydrolysis using High Performance
Liquid Chromatography (HPLC).
• Developed method to determine appropriate solvent system for detection of compounds in
Page 1
HPLC.
• Plotted the standard curves for the co-drugs and its parent compounds using Origin Pro 8
and Microsoft Office
• Demonstrated the synergism between the parent compounds and determined its
experimental significance using t-test and ANOVA.
LABORATORY ROTATION AUG 2012
- DEC 2012
• Learnt aseptic techniques, mammalian cell culture, cell counting and cell treatment
techniques.
• Induced oxidation in cells and performed Thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS)
assay on them to verify induction of oxidation
RESEARCH TRAINEE MAR 2012
– MAY 2012
• Maintenance of diabetes induced rats
• Animal handling and oral dosing of rats
INTERN, SHREECHEM PHARMACEUTICAL PVT. LTD. MAY 2011 –
JUNE 2011
• Studied industrial manufacturing processes (Raw material handling, record keeping,
formulation, packaging, quality control and quality assurance) of tablets, capsules, sterile
products, and ophthalmic
• Submitted a detailed report of the experience of the working of industrial processes
TRAINEE & OBSERVER, SUVIDHA HOSPITAL
DEC 2010
• Learned about dispensing of drugs.
