James Kotzur
Maintenance Supervisor/Manufacturing Engineer
Spartanburg, SC
***********@*****.*** - 864-***-****
* **** *** ***** ********** as plant engineer in a manufacturing environment responsible for planning,
organizing, coordinating, and directing a variety of capital projects. During this time, I worked directly with
the design, installation, and repair of fully automated and semi-automated industrial equipment, implementing
the use of electronic controls (CNC, PLC, and computer based), hydraulics, pneumatics, variable frequency
drivers, CAD, CAM, and several data bus systems.
2 Excellent knowledge of the theory and principles of plastics and injection molding systems. Over the years,
I have worked with a variety of injection molding machines personally incorporating robots for pick and place
operation, grinders fed by sprue pickers automatically recycling material back into process, and custom built
tote moving systems using IMM output signals to manage part count and minimize operator interaction.
1 Installation experience with new and used equipment has involved personally running service wires,
pluming both hydraulic and pneumatic, working with engineering and management on meeting preliminary
specifications, ergonomic positioning of equipment, product design, and application training.
1 Lean manufacturing methods in practice and implemented include 5S with direct focus on TPM, root cause
investigations of failures and proper elimination steps, Poka-Yoke designing sensor based systems and various
jigs for time efficient part verification, Kaizen including a low cost approach to continuous improvement, and
Six Sigma helping achieve zero defects and machine reliability.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Maintenance Supervisor/Manufacturing Engineer
Frigoglass - Spartanburg, SC - March 2012 to July 2014
Primary responsibilities include:
• Layout and implementation of a work order driven preventive maintenance program with an emphasis on
reliability.
• Set up and maintenance of a spare parts system that utilizes the least amount of inventory based on
availability and production allowances.
• Installation and startup of primary pieces of equipment that directly feed a one line facility. These installations
have led to the in house production of previously outsourced components.
• Automation of existing equipment using plc based control systems.
• Development of production safety and process standards based on the use of general work instruction and
SOP's.
• Electrical and mechanical repair of refrigeration manufacturing equipment.
Control Engineer
AEB International Incorporated - Duncan, SC - June 2007 to March 2012
New machine start-ups including installation, electrical wiring, and training on operations.
• Installation of used equipment from other manufacturing industries, making necessary modification to fit
AEB applications. These changes include PLC code rework, sensor changes, VFD alteration, and all related
electrical and mechanical modification, including documentation.
• Electrical and mechanical repair of wire manufacturing equipment.
A-shift Lead Senior Plant Maintenance
Arvin Meritor - Spartanburg, SC - July 2006 to June 2007
Troubleshoot and repair of production equipment, including ABB and Motoman robotic welding cells, used in
the manufacturing of automobile exhaust systems.
• Machine design changes that included the addition of sensors, pneumatics and hydraulic valves, light
curtain, programmable laser scanners based safety guarding (OSHA 1910.xxx), all necessary PLC changes,
documentation, and verification of correct working conditions.
Plant Electrical Engineer
Alcoa Building Products - Gaffney, SC - May 2004 to July 2006
Implementation and design of various systems in a plastic injection molding facility that included robotics,
material handling, de-gating, finished product handling, and various work cell layouts.
• Electrical and mechanical repair of injection molding, painting, packaging, and all peripheral equipment.
• Maintenance and operator training of new and existing plant equipment.
Plant electrical Engineer
Tyco Electronics - Spartanburg, SC - June 2002 to April 2004
Implementation and design of various systems in a plastic injection molding facility that included robotics,
material handling, laser and camera base part removal verification, and various work cell layouts.
• Electrical and mechanical repair of injection molding, stamping, and all peripheral equipment.
• Maintenance and operator training of new and already existing plant equipment.
