Prior to pursuing my bachelor degree at the northern university of Michigan I have served
as a noncommissioned officer in the U.S. Army with two combat tours in Iraq as a tank
mechanic and additional duties as a recovery specialist. Ensuring mission success was my
topmost priority be it by fixing vehicles, training soldiers, or making sure that my soldiers are
taken care of in order to perform their job to the best of their ability. As a recovery specialist,
going behind enemy lines to assist in asset retrieval as well as any engineering tasks requested
by friendly forces.
After active duty, I spent some time working for RadioShack as a sales associate.
Honing in on my customer relation skills, I used my technical aptitude to help the customers how
to use their current products along with presenting alternative solutions to better serve their
needs.
During my stay at RadioShack, I have decided to pursue more time with the military in the
Army Reserve as an IT Specialist. Connecting network devices, establishing connections,
backing up user data were some of the tasks required for the job.
Eager to expand my education, I have traveled to Northern Michigan University (NMU)
where I pursued a bachelors degree in computer science. With strong emphasis on Object
Oriented programming, two main languages used were Java and C++. Learning various
algorithms, data structures, and recursive methods were part of the core essentials in these
languages.
Taking classes in Linux administration and advanced network programming allowed me
to complete my personal senior project which was a Light up Solenoid Driven Chimes. Using an
arduino board and various other hardware I was able to build a xylophone that can be controlled
through the internet. Website used to control the chimes utilized AJAX to store user comments
in a mySQL database.
In between semesters, and at odd times during holiday seasons while home, I have been
volunteering my time to help Ballet Renaissance with their mission in Detroit Michigan.
Depending on the need, some of my duties included taking photographs, recording video,
collecting payments, stage setup and teardown, connecting audio/video technologies as well as
any other task that might have come up.
Throughout my life I have traveled to many different cultures. Starting with the move from
Poland to America, I have been exposed to many different cultures. There is always something
new to learn when one immerses themselves in a new environment. This allowed me to
become a highly adaptive team player that knows the value of respecting other peoples opinion
regardless of my own views, which over time fostered a creative and analytical mind that
embraces diversity.
