Manager of a small technical team of Engineers and Technicians responsible
for the characterization of new designs and new products for the Linear
Products Business Unit of Skyworks.
. Designed, integrated and wrote software for automated characterization
test stations for both on-wafer and package devices for both small
signal and large signal characterization. Devices characterized
include solid state switches, digital attenuators, low noise
amplifiers, gain blocks, power amplifiers, vco's, direct quadrature
modulators and demodulators and multichip front end modules
predominantly for the wireless cellular and WLAN frequency bands.
Measurements supported include small signal S parameters including
multiports up to 8 ports, power compression, harmonics, TOI, cross
modulation, EVM, quadrature balance, Load Pull, noise figure and
noise parameters, switching speed and settling time. ATE software
written with a blended architecture of Microsoft Visual Basic 6 and NI
LabView 7.1. Resulted in testing that was faster, more reliable and
more repeatable independent of test technician.
. Trained technicians and design engineers in the Linear Products Design
Group on valid measurement practices and error correction. Training
included proper VNA calibration techniques, proper setup and
measurement of two tone TOI testing on solid state switches and
amplifiers.
. Duplicated Skywork's DC and RF GaAs PHEMT testing capability at an
off-shore foundry as part of special project.

Manager and Technical Advisor of a group of 15 to 25 Project Engineers and
Project Managers with a business focus on the design, integration and
delivery of turn-key automated custom test systems to a variety of market
segments including RF, Microwave, and Millimeter Wave Component Test (RFIC,
MMIC, LNA, PA, Frequency Converters, Receivers, Transmitters,
Transceivers), Wired and Wireless Broadband Communications Functional Test
(Cellular handsets, DOCSIS cable modems and headends), and Defense Industry
Component Test (missile radar, beacon transmitters, satellite receivers).
Responsible for the group's profit / loss, salary administration, expense
targeting, revenue targeting and delivering customer contractual
obligations. The customer base included both defense and commercial
businesses, including Lockheed Martin, Northrup Grumman, Raytheon, Lucent
and Motorola.

Technical consultant and resource for the Hewlett Packard Sales force with
an emphasis on business development and delivery of microwave measurement
solutions, microwave device and IC measurement solutions, microwave device
modeling and microwave CAE. Generated and taught Hewlett Packard classes on
microwave instrument operation and programming and on microwave
measurements and techniques to Hewlett Packard customers. Provided
consultation services to Hewlett Packard customers to solve specific
microwave measurement problems. Authored and presented numerous technical
papers for Hewlett Packard events and IEEE MTT.
Training and Sales Support Tools Manager :
Managed a group of five marketing engineers in the marketing department at
the HP Signal Analysis Division. Responsible for the generation,
distribution, and teaching of classes and seminars on the operation,
programming and applications of microwave spectrum analyzers. Responsible
for technical competitive analysis of competitor spectrum analyzers.
Responsible for sales force training on new products. Responsible for data
sheets, product notes, application notes and programming notes for specific
signal analyzer products. Provided a technical interface between the field
sales engineers and the factory. Created and grew the group from one to
five engineers. Determined salary and expense targets for the group.
Coordinated new product introductions and field training for Signal
Analysis Division.
Engineering Supervisor:
Created and grew the Microwave Device Applications Group to a staff level
of five engineers and one administrative assistant by selective screening
and recruiting. Established a microwave design and measurement capability
in the group and published applications newsletters to disseminate the
information internal to Hewlett Packard. Provided a technical interface to
the R&D and production groups of the internal customer divisions for
Technology Center microwave devices. Determined salary and expense targets
for the group. Provided leadership and technical support for bringing new
products into production including GaAs FET's, GaAs IC's, GaAs diode
arrays, microwave BJT's, SRD's YIG spheres, and thin and thick film
circuits. Explored unique circuit feasibility by designing and building
breadboards. Supported the device test area with product engineering, yield
analysis, parametric screens and process feedback. Provided technical
support to the internal microelectronics groups using Technology Center
microwave devices.
