MAIN PROJECT DETAILS:

The main aim of our project is to investigate weld strength of appendages

which are welded on fuel tube at specified locations by resistance spot welding to

provide inter element spacing in the fuel bundle to facilitate uniform coolant

flow.

The weld strength of the appendage on fuel tube is tested by using recently

developed testing machine. Since, this is a unique machine developed in NFC, we

modelled the complete testing machine using commercially available software,

Pro/Engineer and explained the working principle of newly developed machine. To

conduct the experiment for finding the experiments we followed the standard

procedure developed by the NFC.

The induced shear stress to shear the appendage on zirconium tube is

compared with the theoretical results. The commercially available solid works

software is used to find the theoretical results. The results were found satisfactory.
