Accomplishments
UTEP 2009
FALL 2009 OUTSTANDING SENIOR DESIGN AWARD
Experience
General Labels and Printing - el paso, tx August to December 2009
Industrial Engineer Internship
Key Results:
. Their main problems at General Labels and Printing were that they had
idle time in production area due to job staging delay, a deficient flow
process in staging area, employees did not follow instructions and
machines had efficiency between 30 to 50 percent. And take into
consideration constraints as no hiring, no layoffs, limited budget and
time.
. Methodology used to face problem
o Work Measurement and Time Studies
o TWI - Job Methods
o Operation Analysis
o MOST Data Analysis
o Layout Evaluation
. Efficiency in machines was increased to 75 percent, increase in
productivity, increase employee performance by training them and maintain
managerial assurance of standardized process. Redesign of Flow Process
and Layout and design of proper equipment to help employees at staging
transport equipment to production area
Experience
General Labels and Printing - el paso, tx May 2010 to Present
Engineering Coordinator
Utilization of facilities, equipment, materials, and personnel to improve
efficiency of operations. Study of functional statements, organizational
charts, and project information to determine functions and responsibilities
of workers and work units and to identify areas where duplication may
occur.
Key Results:
. Projects completed:
o Scrap reduction (set up and in process), and overruns reduction by 70%
o Layout improvement (raw material and finished goods warehouse, work
areas and installation of new equipment)
o Implementation of an electronic display, production board and sensors in
machines to calculate efficiency, productivity, downtime in order to help
standardize processes
o Development of work instructions for standardized processes
o Control of raw material inventory by labeling every roll of paper with
barcodes containing footage and specifications of the substrate and using
an IPod-scanner for outgoing and incoming material. It also facilitated
raw material traceability.
o Improvement in specs flow
o Creation of bill of materials and standard pack to each part number
o Reduced quotes turnover by 50 percent by improving quote process
o Press configuration and development of reports to be run from the system
and exported to excel
o Implementation of scheduling module in Label Traxx system providing
available time per shift and estimated time for make ready and tear down
with estimated press speed as well as combination of jobs to reduce idle
time and scrap in the machines. Keep track of opened orders being able to
see what has been scheduled, prepared by staging, press complete, finish
complete and received by finished goods warehouse and notifying by the
customer that their order was completed by email
o Design and construction of clean room to install digital press
o Implementation of Digital Process
o Implementation of laser cutting system
o Lead time reduction from six to five days
o Executed weekly productivity and scrap reports and presented monthly
productivity and scrap behavior to management
o Implementation of Pull System
. Methodology used:
o Mapping the Value Stream
o Visual Management
o Error Proofing
o Quick Changeover
o Standard Operations
o One-Piece Flow
o Kanban System
o Total Productive Maintenance
o Lean Metrics
o Kaizen
. Production Manager
(July-September 2012)
Key Results:
. Increased EBIT
. Scrap reduction by 2 %
. Increased Uptime by 10%
. Began to measure Overall Equipment Effectiveness
. Implementation of key Performance Indicators
. Supervised three UTEP senior teams which were working on SMED, SPC, Bill
of Materials and Value Stream Mapping
