Youth Care Specialist

CYFD - State of New Mexico - Las Cruces, NM - August 2011 to Present

Responsibilities

Supervise the safety and security of one of four secure units at John Paul Taylor Center, a secure facility

for juveniles. I specialize in the rehabilitative aspects of the program, but also conduct room searches daily,

redirect aggressive or violent behaviors and restraint juveniles when necessary. Conduct UA's on juveniles

to check for drug use/possession and bag and tag contraband and follow chain of custody. I also conduct

transports of inmates.

Accomplishments

I have achieved to-date a one hundred person success rate of inmates (called clients) that I have been assigned

as official mentor to. In the general the facility success rate is approx. 10 - 20%. In three years while involved

in countless restraints for various reasons, I have not injured, or been injured by a client.

I started an evening group that taught life skills to clients ready to leave which helped them not return to lock up.
