Project done in Diploma : 5 Ton capacity Motorized screw jack
I and my classmates created a "motorized jack" to replace the manual screw
jacks which are used in lifting loads with huge human effort. The
motorized screw jack compact in size lifts loads easily using screw thread
with minimal human effort by converting mechanical input into electrical
input.
I conceived the idea of using wiper motor for creating the jack for the
advantages of its size and portability.
Utility:
With the help of screw jack punctured tires can be changed over easily by a
common man without any professional help from auto mechanics.
B.E. Project1 : Block and tackle system
I and my team explored the advantage of using the mechanical energy to
reduce the physical effort in drawing water from the wells. Using 3
pulleys with the already existing 'Block & Tackle system', we could reduce
the quantum of effort by half in drawing water from the well.
Utility:
This technique can be used not only with wells but can also be adopted in
situations requiring the movement of heavy weight material from one place
to another.
B.E. Main Project2 : Finite Element Analysis of Ball pin using ANSYS
Though I was assigned a classmate to work with on the final year project, I
was the one who took the most interest and effort in the project including
the conception of the project.
I ventured to identify Von mises stresses on the "Ball pin model" by using
the ANSYS software. I analyzed by variance in the quality of material,
viz., low carbon, medium carbon, and high carbon steel. I adopted various
types of testing, viz., Rockwell hardness testing, Brinell hardness
testing, Vickers hardness testing, Hydraulic Press testing and Finite
Element Analysis. After having made a 3-D model of the existing drawing of
the ball pin model in solid works, I analyzed it in ANSYS. I then made the
necessary changes and analyzed the materials again in ANSYS until
satisfactory improvement in strength was achieved.
Utility:
This methodology with ANSYS software can be adopted in any Steering system
used mostly for vehicles. By checking the quality of critical components in
manufacturing processes, unnecessary breakages can be eliminated.
