SENIOR MANAGEMENT CONSULTANT FOR ADVANCED PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
Recruited by the CEO to come to China for the purpose of improving Chery's
product quality as well as product planning and product development
capabilities. Key objective is to guide the integration of globally
competitive product development processes and program management
techniques that will facilitate production of high quality vehicles
meeting complex regulatory and customer requirements for domestic Chinese
as well as international export markets. Provide the vision and leadership
required to establish and implement a robust phase-gated new product
development process, quality improvement strategies and adoption of
structured program management methodologies using a cross functional
matrixed approach. Mentor staff engineers and managers to improve and
broaden their skill sets through various program leadership roles.
Played instrumental role in various technical and strategic planning
capacities enhancing broad aspects of Chery's organization, processes,
business expansion, product portfolio planning and product
development/engineering strategy:

produced comprehensive gap analysis report and road map describing

start up of a new joint venture with U.S.-based Quantum Corporation,

and staff levels. Initiated talent recruiting activities with
international and local agencies to achieve aggressive on-boarding

Startup company founded for design and development of vehicles to be
engineered in U.S. and produced in China.
VICE PRESIDENT, RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT
Recruited by CEO and founder, directed all technical activities related to
design and development of five new vehicles by a global engineering team,
manufactured in China by new joint venture organization, and distributed
in North America, Europe, and China under new brand. Conducted extensive
market research, and created detailed technology road maps.
(Met all strategic goals of this role, although venture was not realized
due to $500M funding shortfall.)
Led small engineering and planning team of 8 in 2-year intensive effort
that created executable strategy for structure and operation of global
technical center to support product development needs of the joint
venture:
? Created global product development organization structure, recruiting
strategy, and phase-gated NPD process.
? Developed complete facility plan for North American technical center
and integrated design center with capacity of 500 engineers and
designers capable of managing multiple global development programs

R&D operation of Mitsubishi Motors of America, which sells vehicles through
~700 dealers in U.S., Canada, Mexico, & Caribbean.
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, VEHICLE DEVELOPMENT
Recruited to apply expertise demonstrated at Honda R&D to develop
organization equipped to design and develop unique vehicles for North
American market. Reporting to VP of R&D, directed vehicle testing centers
and emissions laboratories in Michigan and California with responsibility
for integrating all functional attributes for new models including
compliance with complex U.S. safety (NHTSA) and emissions regulations
(EPA/CARB). Led the N.A. team in multiple global new model programs.
While severe financial constraints and market share loss precluded
establishment of an all new R&D organization, developed and executed
strategies enabling dramatic quality and productivity improvements and
launch of multiple new models:
? Developed operational strategies to create North American R&D center,
tactically restructuring organization into functional work groups and
increasing engineering team from 25 to 125, including 6 department
directors through aggressive talent recruiting strategies. Prepared
annual activity plans and budgets to ensure required resources.

six years, leading the hiring and mentoring for a team of >250 engineers,

Served as key catalyst in evolution of Honda's American R&D organization
to one capable at departure of concurrent development and launch of 2 new
models while supporting production of 9 unique models in 5 manufacturing

serving as engineering project leader for a global product

team with Swedish colleagues to harmonize specifications to meet
