Magnus Pacific Corporation
Magnus Pacific Corporate Office, Rocklin, CA
Project Engineer Intern
(OCSD) Orange County Sanitation District Levee Restoration Project
The Orange County Sanitation District Project consisted of the correction of two levees that were damaged under a separate
contract to install a micro tunnel. The main focus included in-situ stabilization of approximately nine thousand cubic yards of
soil. Magnus Pacific Developed an approximate mix design in order to achieve a minimum of two thousand and fifty (psi) in
twenty eight days, in which the team needed to obtain an eighty five percent core recovery in order to meet OCSD’s and Cores
specifications. All deep soil mixing was performed within one foot of the micro-tunnel utilizing a six foot auger and an ABI
drill rig. Five thousand cubic yards of jet grouting and six hundred and ninety-nine compaction grout holes was also performed
in order to stabilize the material throughout the site utility corridor. Magnus Pacific developed six hundred linear feet of
cofferdam in order to provide a stabilized work area for the ABI drill rig and included the use of various heavy construction
machineries. A twelve hundred gallon per minute dewatering and water treatment system was developed on both sides of the
levees in order to retract all water from the cofferdams. The retracted water was cycled throughout the dewatering and water
treatment system, which then was cycled back into the Santa Ana River.
Responsibilities included generating daily reports, performing daily quality control analysis, processing RFI’s (Request for
Information), generating daily and weekly production summaries, processing COC’s (Chain of Custody Records), updating an
analyzing weekly and monthly production company cost. Performed and obtained inclinometer disturbances, analyzed core
recovery per specifications and corresponded with all site Construction Managers/Superintendent and subcontractors in order to
achieve the necessary goal at hand.
(SFPUC) San Francisco Public Utilities Commission City and County of San Francisco San Antonio Backup Pipeline Project
The SFPUC Project consisted of a slurry wall construction that was approximately 3500 linear feet and up to a maximum depth
of eighty feet. In order to construct such a depth, a Koerhing 1466 Long Reach Excavator with a modified boom was used.
Consisting of four different reaches, a quadrilateral slurry wall was constructed in a series of fifty to sixty feet panels per day.
Each panel of slurry (Cement-Bentonite Slurry Cutoff) wall construction was excavated to full depth before advancing to the
next panel. In addition, panel joints were performed by conducting a 3 foot cut/tie-in with the previous day’s panel, thus giving
a water tight seal and superior continuity between panels.
Responsibilities included generating daily reports, performing daily quality control analysis, processing RFI’s (Request for
Information), generating daily and weekly production summaries, processing COC’s (Chain of Custody Records), updating an
analyzing weekly and monthly production company cost, and establishing daily Cut-Sheet progressions. Performed daily
geotechnical laboratory analysis; experiments included obtaining the Cement-Bentonite Slurry’s density and viscosity, bentonite
soil content percentage; pH and grain size distributions, sieve analysis, and water bleed percentages.
