WORK HISTORY
Oracle DBA,
Feb 2010 - July 2014
FS Engineering, Inc - Waterloo, ON
. Experience in a very fast paced environment administrating, supporting
and maintaining multiple production and development Oracle databases.
. Performed numerous Oracle 10g to 11g software installs, upgrades,
patching and database builds.
. Responsible for addressing security vulnerability fixes by applying
CPU and PSU patches in all development and production databases
environments. Created a shell script that reports to DBA group Oracle
databases that are missing patches, both one-offs, CPUs, and/or PSUs
(based on a list of deemed necessary patches).
. Proficient and very comfortable in command line interface usage (i.e.
SQLPlus, UNIX etc.)
. Monitored and maintained databases using tools like TOAD, SQL
Developer, OEM and SQL Navigator.
. Promoted and implemented on a weekly basis database changes received
from the development organization to pre-production and production
environments. Typical changes involved the creation and updates of
tables, columns, indexes, views, synonyms, function and procedures.
Also, I ensured that changes were authorized by management; changes
followed the standard development/pre-production/production life
cycle; were scheduled, implemented and completed within standard
maintenance windows with the exception of emergencies.
. Established and maintained sound backup and recovery policies and
procedures for hundreds of non-production and production databases.
Ensured the nightly RMAN and DataPump backups ran successfully;
refreshed and cloned schemas and databases in development at
application owners' request.
. Experienced in administrating 3-node RAC (Real Application Cluster)
database and Physical Standby database according to established
procedures and guidelines put in place by Sr. DBA members.
. Implemented and maintained Tablespace quotas, users and roles;
assigned system and object privileges that are fully compliant with
the business rules of the company.
. Performed database tuning and performance monitoring using AWR and
ADDM.
. Used OEM to Monitor and Plan for growth (capacity planning), created
new Tablespaces, added datafiles to existing Tablespaces, monitored
Tablespace size and resized Tablespaces.
. Performed general technical troubleshooting of errors in alert.log
(e.g. ORA-600, ORA-7445, etc). Opened SR's as necessary with Oracle
Support to address recurring issues or to obtain bug fixes.
. Attended DBA team meetings fostering strong cohesiveness regarding all
major databases issues, plus departmental direction, annual plans,
licensing, policy changes, etc.
. Experienced in scheduling jobs through Oracle Job Scheduler, Cron and
BMC control-M.
