Post MBBS Experience:
As Resident Rotating Intern at North Bengal Medical College (1999-2000):
During this period worked as House officer/Resident Rotating Intern at
North Bengal Medical College (1999-2000) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and
allied specialties for 1 year. Nature of work included daily ward work,
care of inpatients, attending outpatient clinics with seniors, assisting
seniors in operative work and performing surgeries under supervision.
As Resident House-physician at Dept. of Gastroenterology and Dept. of Neuro
Medicine, Institute of Post-Graduate Medical Education Research (SSKM
Hospital) (2000-2001): Admission, history-taking, examination and general
management of patients in the outdoor and indoor sections of both
speciality departments. General ward chores like putting IV channels,
collection of venous/arterial blood for investigations, nasogastric
suction/feeding, pleural and peritoneal tapping, urethral catherisation,
lumbar puncture, wound care and the likewise.
Experience as Specialty Registrar (2002-2007):
Nature of work in Obstetrics: included daily ward rounds, care of
inpatients, counseling and consenting patients, outpatient clinics
emergency-on-call duties and the overall management of pre- & post-
operative patients. Labour Room duties included conducting normal labour
and delivery as the Casualty Medical Officer round-the-clock in the Labour
Room on 1:3 on-call basis alongwith management of obstetric emergencies,
including all types of obstetric haemorrhage, shock, sepsis, and the
likewise, presenting to the labour room at all hours. Procedures performed
independently as well as under supervision included instrumental deliveries
like vacuum extraction and forceps deliveries, operative procedures like
dilatation and evacuation, suction and evacuation, episiotomy with repair,
repair of cervical, paraurethral and vaginal lacerations, manual removal of
placenta, encirclage, operative management of ectopic pregnancy, elective
as well as emergency Caesarean Section of uncomplicated cases as also of
complicated cases like Previous Caesarean, Placenta praevia, to name a few.
Assisted in emergency obstetric hysterectomies for Post-partum haemorrhage,
ruptured uterus and similar cases. I was also actively involved in Research
work, Audit and Teaching program.
Nature of work in Gynaecology and Family Planning: included daily ward
rounds, care of inpatients, counseling and consenting patients, outpatient
clinics, emergency on call duties and the overall management of pre- & post-
operative patients. Managed speciality clinics like Infertility, Adolescent
Health, Cancer Screening, Menopause Clinic and Family Planning alongwith
seniors. Surgeries performed both independently and under supervision are
abdominal and vaginal hysterectomies laparoscopic assisted hysterectomy,
cancer surgeries and all minor gynaecologic/laparoscopic procedures
(cystectomies, chromopertubation, ovarian drilling, etc). Trained in Family
planning interventions (insertion and removal of intra-uterine devices,
etc) and medical termination of pregnancy (MTP) procedures. I was also
actively involved in Research work,Audit and Teaching program.
As Post-Doctoral Fellow in Reproductive Medicine: General investigation,
counseling and management of male and female infertility patients,
including advanced cases of polycystic ovary syndrome, endometriosis and
adenomyosis, azoospermia, oligoasthenoteratozoospermia, sexual dysfunction,
as well as recurrent pregnancy wastage. Performed independently ovulation
induction, folliculometry by transvaginal sonography, semen preparation and
intra-uterine insemination. Took active role in assisted conception
procedures like in vitro fertilization (IVF) and embryo transfer:
selection, counseling preparation of the patient, ovarian stimulation,
serial folliculometry by transvaginal sonography, including cases requiring
donor gametes or embryos and gestational surrogacy. Trained in human
embryology and andrology (including gamete-handling, insemination and
micromanipulation). Performed both independently and under supervision,
procedures like oocyte retrieval, cyst aspiration under sonographic
guidance and embryo transfer. Performed under supervision as well as
assisted in operative laparoscopic procedures related to infertility like
myomectomy, cyst resection, management of endometriosis, chocolate cyst,
tubal surgeries like resection, coagulation or clipping of hydrosalpinx,
tuboplasty, management of ectopic pregnancy, operative hysteroscopic
procedures like myomectomy, polypectomy, adhesiolysis, septoplasty and
tubal cannulation. Assisted complex plastic operations like cervico-
vaginoplasty, uterus reconstruction in cases of primary amenorrhoea with
congenital anomalies of the reproductive system.
As a Consultant at Infertility and ART Unit in private hospital(s) at
present, independently managing all cases of primary and secondary
infertility and recurrent pregnancy loss, including recruitment,
conversion, investigation, decision on the line of management, patient
counseling and treatment. Performing all procedures related to ART like
intrauterine inseminations, transvaginal sonography, ovarian stimulation
and monitoring, ovum-pick-up and embryo transfer independently. Performed
Hysterolaparoscopic procedures for the diagnosis and management infertility
and other gynaecological conditions on a regular basis. Competent in
regular follow-up of patients undergoing fertility treatment, including
management of complications related to ART. Undertaking pregnancy follow-up
and management of high risk obstetrics of all patients conceiving through
treatment for infertility, including management of complications like OHSS,
ectopic pregnancies and fetal reduction for multiple pregnancies. Actively
involved in undertaking audits, research and teaching Post-graduate and
Post-doctoral students in Reproductive Medicine.
2 TEACHING EXPERIENCE
As a Specialist Registrar at Pushpagiri Institute of Medical Sciences,
taught under-graduate MBBS students and post-graduate students attending
the 3-year Diplomate of National Board in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
(India) course in theory and clinical classes.
As a Post-graduate resident at MKCG Medical College, taught in clinical
classes for under-graduate/MBBS students.
RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
1. Undertook a 3-year study on 'A Clinical Correlation of Maternal
Nutritional Status with Obstetric Outcome' as thesis for Masters'
degree.
2. Undertook a 2-year study on 'Seasonal Trends in Oxidative Stress in
Semen - Impact on Male Infertility' as dissertation for Post-doctoral
Fellowship Programme.
3. Conducted comparative studies on the use of letrozole versus
clomiphene citrate in ovulatory women undergoing intrauterine
insemination with donor sperm.
4. Studied the effects of oxidative stress in the oocytes of patients
with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome during IVF procedure by means of
polscope analysis in a prospective manner.
5. Conducted randomized controlled trial using different types of ovarian
stimulation protocols in poor responders in IVF-ET
MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE
Acted as the Joint Treasurer as part of the Organizing Committee for a
National Congress on Assisted Reproductive Technology and Advances in
Infertility in April, 2010.
As an Infertility and ART Specialist, I have been involved in looking after
the functioning of the whole Infertility Unit, out-patient as well as
inpatient sections, alongwith senior colleagues.
At Specialist Registrar level and during subspeciality training I was
involved in arranging Grand rounds, Clinical meetings, mortality and
morbidity meetings.
ACHIEVEMENTS & RECOGNITION
1. First rank in all three professional MBBS examinations in the
university. Awarded gold medal for securing highest marks in the
university in Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Pathology and

CAREER AIMS
To practice my speciality with special interest in gynaecologic endoscopy,
infertility and reproductive endocrinology in a better developed health
care system. I am also eager to continue my academic and research endeavors
into the realms of human reproduction in future.
RESEARCH INTERESTS
Conducting further clinical studies in the field of reproductive
endocrinology and human embryology so as to improve results and reduce
costs of assisted conception in developing countries.
