Project Work:
Modeling And Optimization Of Open Die Extrusion Parameters Using
Taguchi Method:
The optimization of open die extrusion process is of great importance. In
this work, we are finding the optimal combination of the process parameters
i.e. Semi-Cone angle, land length, Percentage of reduction and outlet angle
to obtain minimum stress induced in the die which may effect the life of
die. In this extrusion process, out of several process parameters, four
parameters each at four levels have been related for optimization. The
exhaustive search for optimum combination of the process parameters so that
the stress induced in it is minimum requires 44 (256) experiments to be
conducted. Taguchi Approach is used to design the experiments. When we
applied Taguchi method to the current project, required only 16 experiments
to be carried to obtain the optimal combination of process parameters.
