APPLIED MENGG. THESIS PROJECT:
■ Comparison of Data from the Sea Trial Motion with the Simulated Motion in the Lab
The project deals with the simulation of motion of a ship in the lab, analyzing the data of
the human subjects and comparing the output with the data collected from the Q-348
Quest sea trial.
Simulation of the ship motion was done with the help of Moog stewart platform and
angular motion of the human segments standing over it was collected using the Opti-
track camera.
The force applied by the body was collected with the help of loadcell over which the
human subject had one of his feet.
The loadcell and Opti-track system datas were used to input the inverse dynamic Matlab
code which calculated angle extended by each of the body joint and the work done by the
different body segments were calculated and compared.
MENGG. COURSE PROJECTS:
■ Simulation of quasi three dimensional flow over a blunt body using Ansys CFX 14.0
The separation of the flow and boundary layer thickness was calculated using the Thwaites
integral method and compared with simulation done using Ansys.
The solution was used to plot velocity profile from which the tangential velocity w as found
and was able to get the boundary layer’s thickness, displacement thickness, moment
thickness and shape.
■ Thermal analysis of rectangular fin made up of different material.
The numerical prediction of thermal performance characteristics of a r ectangular fin
element dissipating heat in its surrounding medium was done .
Two-dimensional heat conduction equation along with appropriate boundary condition is
solved using second order accurate finite different scheme which is further solved by
Thomas algorithm and line by line method.
