From - Doug Twitchell, Vice President, Wholesale Data Integrity Solutions
Pam Colbert and I worked together from 2005 - 2007 within Corporate Credit Administration at Wells Fargo. The
results of this initial effort and our ongoing work has given Wells Fargo a "best of class" Basel II and data
integrity program. I continue to work on this program within Wholesale Loan Services.
Following are some of the significant accomplishments performed by both Pam and myself.
-Identified the significant duties and responsibilities of a data integrity officer (DIO).
-Worked with over 20 business lines to identify their DIOs.
-Personally visited many of the lines of business (LOB) to meet with the DIOs. Explained their roles, our
expectations and these visits provided us with personal knowledge of their business operations.
-Set up a database to collect all the key fields for the wholesale lines of business. Worked with the LOBs and
DIOs to provide data files on a monthly basis.
-Developed scorecards to focus on key data fields for accuracy.
This Basel database has now become essentially a data warehouse of wholesale data and provides key input
for credit reporting, bank capital models and management reporting. It is the go forward system for Wells /
Wachovia.
-Developed project plans to resolve data integrity issues within the LOBs.
-Initiated quarterly sampling of key data fields to verify the accuracy of data being provided into the Basel
database to the source documents.
-Corporate Credit developed a certification tool (CERT) to track errors that were outside of tolerance levels.
This tool contains detailed project plans with due dates for resolution. Pam's role with this tool was to
design and develop the overall requirements to build the tool, perform application UAT and set up and
train users for the initial product release and subsequent iterations. Subsequently after going through
several modifications, CERT is now the basis for reporting Basel II progress to the regulators and senior
management.
-Basel II plans, system processes, and documentation efforts have been reviewed in detail with the OCC,
FED and internal audit. The results of these reviews and examinations have been satisfactory.
