Section Head, Commercial Applications
As the Section Head of Commercial Applications reporting to the V.P. of Technology, planned and
implemented process development, microbiology & biochemistry research and intellectual
property generation. Primary focus has been the application of a 1st-generation ethanol product at
commercial-scale facilities and further fermentation studies on lignocellulosic biomass. Frequent
travel to customer sites, trade shows, and sales calls to answer various technical concerns from
potential clients. Additional areas of focus have included staffing the Commercial Applications
research groups and overseeing the progress in experimental studies. Key accomplishments
have included:
Successful completion and pilot scale validation of several key process design features
•
involving biomass pretreatment, saccharification, yeast propagation and simultaneous
saccharification and fermentation.
Product Launch Team member and Technical R&D Lead for commercial rollout of 1st-
•
generation ethanol technology.
Travel to customer facilities to discuss strategies on implementation of next-generation
•
solutions.
Evaluate potential enzyme applications from in-house and third parties for 1st and 2nd
•
generation ethanol.
Successful completion of scale up risk mitigation studies and operating protocol
•
development for commercial scale fermentation including product yield and enzyme dose
optimization.
Developed SOPs for demonstration-scale (2 Metric Tons per day) facility for biomass
•
conversion.
Managed timelines with strict deadlines based on experimental results.
•
Establishment of microbiology and engineering research studies with current total staff of 6
•
focused on biomass saccharification, fermentation, and with emphasis on commercial
application.
Technical Action Team Lead for both Downstream Process Implementation and
•
Fermentation groups.
Draft slide sets for investors and clients and conduct verbal presentations.
•
Perform techno-economic analysis of product lines and create models from generated data.
•
Draft patent applications based on research studies performed in-house
