Responsible for normal three-patient workload within the scope of a nursing
student, under the supervision of the nurse preceptor:
o Examined patient charts, planned and organized tasks to be performed, and
documented all care provided throughout the day
o Participated in daily meetings regarding patient care, and engaged in
interprofessional collaboration with other members of the health care
team
o Carried out head-to-toe assessments, documented, reported changes in
patient conditions, and administered medications
o Observed and assisted preceptor with various procedures, such as changing
port-a-cath needles/central line blood draws
o Provided teaching and emotional support to patients/families with a
difficult diagnosis
o Talked to and played with patients to improve morale and establish
effective communication
o Prepared patients for transfer to the OR, including documentation and
medications
