We performed Organic Synthesis on a large scale. In this position I performed the

following list of activities:

Test incoming raw materials and outgoing products to ensure that they are within

the required specifications from a QC perspective using FTIR, KF, Automatic

Titrators, and Protein Analyzer etc.

(1) From the production perspective.

(a) Ensure that all vessels to be used are clean, and safe to use.

(b) Ensure that the right amounts of reactants are added to the vessels.

(c) Document all that was done.

(d) Start the reaction and add catalyst.

(e) Neutralize, filter and compute the yield of product from the main organic

synthesis.

(f) Use the product thus obtained in further reactions to obtain other products

that are packaged as liquids or spray dried which are then used to produce

many more products.

We were involved in the production of alcohol using steam distillation; the job

was 50% quality control and 50% process control. In this position I performed

the following duties:

(a) Daily checks were made to ensure that all the necessary raw materials were

available.

(b) Ensure that the right amounts of raw materials were added together with

the right amount of yeast to initiate fermentation.

(c) Monitor the volume and quality of Carbon-Dioxide produced.

(d) Monitor the amount of Ethyl alcohol produced.

(e) Monitor wine production (fermentation and packaging).

(f) Working on Biogas pilot project.

(g) Drying yeast concentrate for the production of livestock feeds.

(h) Extraction of local flavors using Ethyl alcohol, for use in rum and a soft

drink line we were establishing.

This Textile industry produces cotton fabrics, which were either dyed or used

for screen-printing. I was exposed to the preparation of various dye recipes,

which were used to dye the fabrics; pretreatment of Cotton fabrics so they can

absorb the dye uniformly.

Quality Control Technician:

Conducting tests for melanosis on prawns, organoleptic test on fish, and

analytical methods to determine protein contents.

In this position, we collect, prepare and analyze Bauxite samples using wet

chemistry techniques. Our main goals were to check for Iron and Aluminum in

the samples using titration and Spectrophotometer.
