releasing the child.

• I prepared all court dockets for The Deputy Chief Counsel’s Office. This allowed all 13 attorneys to
confidently present their cases to the Immigration courts.
• It was my responsibility to ensure all appeals and motion to reopen cases were scheduled within a given time
frame by keeping automated logs, using Microsoft Excel.
• On a daily basis I requested official conviction documents from other courts. This supported the attorney’s
victorious cases.
• I tracked and logged all the requesting and the sending of alien files using NFTS system.
• It was my duty to prepare official Change of Venue (COV) documents to transfer cases to other District
Offices
• I filed Notices to Appear (NTA) documents with the immigration court for official record.
• I performed background checks, which included name searches and fingerprint searches, using the automated
INS systems as well as those of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
• I acted in the capacity of a Legal Assistant duties, while Legal Assistants were unavailable.
• At the request of the attorneys and the District Counsel I formatted and typed official correspondence. This
gave them the freedom of concentrating on their court cases.
• I answered most questions form incoming calls of other law offices. Those few questions I didn’t know, I
would refer to an attorney.
• I assisted attorneys by preparing legal documents such as Motions to Re-calendar, Motions to Reopen,
Appeals, Board of Immigration Appeal decision.
• I summarized administrative records; such as Notices to Appear (NTA) assembled and organizing trial
exhibits.
• I managed a complex automated filing and record system. This allowed the office to track and retrieve case
files using the National File Tracking System.

• Answering and directing incoming phone calls.
• Responsible for faxing and mailing correspondence.
• Follow-up with all family reunification issues with each resident.
• Responsible for the implementation of an ongoing Understanding the court Component.
• Conduct orientation for new residents.
• Communicates effectively and maintains good morale and discipline with residents.
• Responsible for the implementation of the reunification program.
• Responsible for scheduling all flights for residents.
• Update census and discharges on a daily basis.
• Review files on a bi-monthly basis to ensure documentation of reunification progress for each resident.
• Will oversee reunification process and ensure ORR Reunification protocols are followed.
• Conduct initial intake interviews of youth to include gathering familial, possible sponsorship information and
to establish age of the youth.
• Conduct interviews of family members, friends of family and/or sponsors to determine the integrity of the
relationship and verify information received from youth within 24-48 hours.
• Submit completed reunification packet with appropriate referral made by Case Manager for the timely release
of youth to designated ORR representative.
• Assist case management department with filing, closing, and with the overall daily maintenance of records
found in either the physical case file or UAC portal.
• Ensure the provision of two weekly telephonic contacts with family of origin, primary caregiver and/or
sponsor.
• Facilitate incoming calls to youth with the appropriate family members and other approved caregivers.
• Facilitate attorney to client contact as requested by youth.
VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE
Choir: My junior high and high school years I participated in fundraisers (selling different products, carwashes, BBQ
plates, pizza sell during lunch, bake sell, ice cream, etc.) We would do a lot of fundraisers for our end of the school
year trips and competitions. My junior was an awesome trip to New York. I also sang for nursery homes, beach
cleanup and volunteered ushering during concerts at the Harlingen Municipal Auditorium for the South Texas Coral.
2008-2010: Upward Bound at TSTC and Harlingen High School South. We also provided weekly tutoring sessions for
students.
2009-2010 Co-op: Fundraising for school related activities. The fundraisers were usually for College Campus tours we
would take throughout the year and also our end of the year trip to Six Flags.
2009-2010 St. Ignatius Catholic Church: I sang in the church choir and helped with the kindergarten CCD classes.
2009-2010 Leo Club: Participated in a lot of food drives, collect glasses for those in need of them, toys for tots, letters
to the troops, Ronald McDonald house. We did a lot of community service hours throughout my senior year in high
school.
2012-2013 Family Crisis Centers: Volunteered most of my time at their shelter. I would talk to the victims in the
shelter and help provide information on resources that are available for them.
2012 Hidalgo Juvenile Detention Center: As a volunteer we would advise first time offenders and help the juvenile
to understand the reason why they are in the detention center and help guide them in the right direction.
