Summary
I am an enthusiastic and committed research scientific with knowledge of molecular biology . I
have developed a range of transferable skills through experience in industry and academia -
interpersonal, problem solving, IT and team working. I believe that these equip me for a
future in a business environment. As a scientist researcher, I have developed a flexible nature
which allows me to innovate and to work independently. My aim is to develop my career in
the life science sector.
Skills
Interpersonal
Presentations (15, 20 and 30 minutes), written reports (3000 and 5000 words) are
assessed as part of my job in Destina Genomics LTD, working to different project.
In 2010 I worked as tutor in the University of Catania, practise to explain technical
concepts caring in understanding level of students.
As assistant manager at Duchamp London, honed my diplomacy and customer
relations skills when dealing with disputes over change and deliveries in fitting the
needs of customers through good service and experience.
Team- working
Experience of working effectively with people belonging to different cultures and
habits as part of daily research activity in a team.
Information Technology
Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, and advanced Internet based
search.
Meaningful knowledge of ELISA Data Processing and Analysis Software used to
calculate antibody concentrations in serum samples and in quality control samples.
Summary statistics calculated from these concentrations.
Basic knowledge of Matlab used during the thesis project as well as during my
internship to process experimental data.
Analytical and Problem Solving
As a part of research undertaken in DestiNA Genomics LTD (DGL), acquired a good
experience in platform development for molecular diagnostics, 96well plate, beads and
Lab-on-chip, per RNA and microRNAs detection.
Experience of working in several techniques, for example use of Maldi -TOF mass
spectrometry for the determination of peptide, and FACS methodology working with
the beads, colorimetric and luminescence reading in ELISA like method.
Meaningful experience in serological tests of perinatal TORCH infections, acquired
during the internship, in particular Toxoplasma Gondii in pregnant women: anti -
Toxoplasma IgG, IgM and IgG avidity evaluated by ELISA methods. IgM/ISA GA method
for the presence of antibodies specific per IgM in newborns.
As part of the experimental research, acquired a good experience in knowledge of
molecular biology techniques: PCR, Real Time, Gel Electrophoresis, Southern and Western
Blot, Isaga, E LISA, virus isolation on crops, research antigen antibody titles IFA,
chemiluminescence. Preparation and assessment of materials used in the laboratory,
preparation of buffers and solutions.
As part of Cellular Biology module attended during the university studies, Cell Culture
in vitro and methods to preserve cell culture used: freeze, drying, lyophilisation, ultra -
freezers.
