PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Roto-Rooter Corporation – West Des Moines, Iowa, 2001-2014

Manufacturing Engineer/Safety Director Responsibilities Included process improvement of production

cells and plant layout. Researched and developed proposals for the purchase of equipment, machinery,

tools and storage and work cell items. Conducted time studies and developed routings and work

instructions for standardizing work and training. Lead role in developing new camera repair cell.

Member of new Products/R&D Committee. Served as chairman of Events Committee and Safety &

Housekeeping Committee. Implemented 5S programs. Lead project to replace plant and office lighting

for 30% energy savings and 2.8 year payback. Conducted safety meetings. Assured regulatory

compliance of drain chemicals. Managed MSDS/SDS program.

Accu-Mold – Ankeny, Iowa, 2000-2001

Design Engineer. Designed injection molds for miniature plastic parts used in electronic and medical

applications. Used AutoCAD and SolidWorks software to design mold components around the

customer’s part as specified in its paper print or geometry from electronic file. Designed and built

process improvements to custom made molding and assembly machine. Responsible for fork truck

training and other safety related instruction and improvements.

EMCO – Des Moines, Iowa, 1999

Production Supervisor. Managed crews of up to twenty-two in the production of aluminum and plastic

storm doors. Responsible for increasing production, improving safety, and assuring quality. Increased

production by 5% by eliminating production line stoppages from parts outages

EFCO- Des Moines, Iowa, 1998 -1999

Maintenance Supervisor. Managed a crew of seventeen over two shifts responsible for maintenance of

two plants totaling 500,000 sq. ft. in addition to grounds, cranes, fork trucks, presses shears, lathes, mills,

plasma and laser cutting machines, welders, and robots. Purchased MRO parts and supplies. Coordinated

service calls by outside technicians. Reduced the need for maintenance by 10%, long term, by

performing more through repairs.

Windsor Window Company – West Des Moines, Iowa, 1994-1998

Manufacturing Engineer. Responsibilities include line layouts and process improvement of aluminum

clad wood and vinyl window manufacturing, coordinating efforts of maintenance fabrication team to meet

annual cost savings goals. Conducted time studies for process improvement and work assignments. Key

support role in start-up of new vinyl window line increasing production from 0 to 200+ units a day;

procuring fixtures and equipment, training maintenance and line personnel in the programming,

troubleshooting and preventative maintenance of new window making machinery. Planned and

coordinated production line moves using Microsoft Project software. Developed standard operating

procedures for maintenance of equipment and facility. Procured bridge crane for glass handling. Served

as quality improvement team leader. Led fork truck training courses.

Katecho, Inc. – Des Moines, Iowa 1992-1994

Production Engineer. Developed a new machine department for producing electrodes for the medical

industry, increasing production from 0 to 250,000 electrodes annually while managing the department.

Designed and trouble shot new set-ups on converting equipment. Scheduled jobs: coordinated personnel

and machinery. Responsible for quality, documentation and throughput. Supervised the transfer of the

electrode division of a Denver-based medical manufacturer to Katecho. Cut scrap rate of inherited

machinery from 30% to 3% taking that operation from heavy loss to healthy profit.

Cook Enterprises Fabrication LLC – Des Moines, Iowa, 1988 – 1992

Proprietor – Machinist. Used the facilities of the family business, to contract directly with customers.

Produced stamping dies for use in-house and for others. Designed and built set-ups for production runs of

1 to 10,000 parts in punch press, lathe, mill, etc. Responsible for quality, pricing and prompt delivery.
