Consultant Neonatologist with over 10 years experience in the UK National
Health Service (NHS) as a full time Consultant Neonatologist in Regional
Neonatal Unit. Extensive experience of Conventional Ventilation, High
Frequency Ventilation, inhaled Nitric Oxide and total body cooling in
neonates.
Leadership & management experience include Risk Management, Clinical
Audits & College Tutorship. Key achievements include setting up "Risk
Management Committee" and chairing the meeting for nearly 5 years; lead
many Root Cause Analyses (RCA) and supervised several clinical audits and
quality improvement projects. Recently also took responsibility of "College
Tutor" role for Neonatology department.
Current research interests include neonatal sepsis, neonatal respiratory
disorders and palivizumab immunoprophylaxis in chronic lung disease. Chief
Investigator for 2 clinical researches; secured funding of 60,000 for one
of the project.
Clinical Supervisor for Manchester University MD (2 years postgraduate
course) Degree.
PBL (problem based learning) tutor and OSCE examiner for medical students

Clinical Experience / Employment History
Nov 2011 - Present Consultant Neonatal Paediatrician at Royal Oldham
Hospital (Pennine Acute NHS Trust) Greater Manchester
(UK). I moved to this unit following the
reorganisation of neonatal services in the Greater
Manchester conurbation. We currently have 37 neonatal
beds including 18 ICU/HDU cots located in a brand
new, purpose built women & children's wing. The unit
currently provides ALL aspects of medical neonatology
including conventional and high frequency
ventilation, inhaled nitric oxide, total body cooling
and TPN etc. The department is a tertiary centre,
recognised for higher specialist training in
Neonatology.
May 2003 - Oct 2011 Consultant Neonatal Paediatrician based at Regional
Neonatal Unit, Hope Hospital, Greater Manchester
(UK); the Unit had 9 ICU cots (total 28 cots) and was
one of three regional centres in the Northwest of
England. The Unit provided full intensive care
facility to newborn babies, including various
ventilatory modes, HFOV and Nitric oxide. The unit
was recognized for higher specialist training in
Neonatology.
Jan 2002 - May 2003 Consultant Paediatrician with a special interest in
Neonatology. The Neonatal Unit has a capacity of 18
beds including 4 ICU cots and provides full intensive
care support including HFOV. The Paediatric ward has
32 beds, including surgical beds.

where I was trained in Paediatrics & Neonatology.

Research
. Chief Investigator for a multi-centre research, "Greater Manchester BPD
study". This observational study commenced in April 2009, with 10
participating centres. The research fellow working on this project was
recently awarded MD by Manchester University, for his thesis on this
research study.
. "Procalcitonin in late onset Neonatal Sepsis"- this study started in
2007 to investigate the usefulness of procalcitonin in the diagnosis of
late onset neonatal sepsis and we have just finished recruitment. We
shall be analyzing the data very shortly and present / write our work
accordingly.
. "Molecular Analysis of Genetic changes in Preterm Babies Exposed to
Diagnostic Radiation". Involved with this research project, funded by
Department of Health. The results were presented in RCPCH Conference and
later published (see later).
. Submitted MD Thesis, to Bundelkhund University, India in 1988, entitled
"EEG & Epilepsy in Cerebral Palsy". A study conducted on 50 patients of
various types of cerebral palsy, who had EEGs to see the localization
and epileptiform activity. Subsequently this was published in Indian
Journal of Medical Association (1997).
