I am very persistent about getting any job. I went to college for two
years. I left school to help my parents. When seeking out jobs, I
came across a job with the railroad. They told me that I couldn't
work at the railroad, because I had bad vision in one eye that
happened during childhood. I went back home rather depressed.
After two weeks I went back and persisted for the same position at
the railroad and again they said "No." I went back home and after
two weeks past by, I went back for a third time and they told me
that I was very persistent and they hired me. I stayed with this job
for 11 years. I then went to work for Caterpillar Tractor located in
Peoria, Illinois. After 5 years, I was involved in a 8 month long
strike. When the strike was settled, and we went back to work they
laid-off 10,000 employees. I moved and relocated to Florida, and
worked for Hertz Rent-A-Car. After one year I went to my City
Manager and asked if I could become a Station Manager He said,"
I didn't have a college degree and I would not be able to become a
manager." Two months past and another manager position became
available and I tried again. Once again I was denied. After 6
months, once again a manager position became available and I
asked for the third time and they did accept me at that moment. On
my last day of work, I worked the day shift 7a.m. - 3p.m. The
3p.m. manager called out SICK. I stayed and worked his whole
shift. Unbelievable as it may sound, the third shift manager as well
called out SICK and I stayed and worked his shift as well because I
did not feel that it was right for me to go ahead and go home for
the day. I was moving back to Illinois, and I gave a two week
notice that this event just happen to be my last day on the job there
in Florida. I returned to Hertz Rent-A-Car in Indianapolis, In after
a year later and stayed there for 7 years. From there my family and
I moved to Wichita, Ks due to family and I became employed at
Agco Farm Equipment, Hesston, Kansas for 7 years in the
assembly department. I then returned to the Customer Service
Industry with First Council Casino, New Kirk, Ok. I started as a
slot attendant and after 6 months I became a slot supervisor. I
supervised 8-10 employees. After 1 year of supervision, I became
Manager on Duty (MOD) in charge of the casino, the hotel, and the
event center. I managed and supervised 50-60 employees. The
reason that I am still employed is because I have a wife and 3
daughters at the ages of 14, 10, and 9 years old. and I need to
continue working to take care of them and get them through
college.
